I hesitantly agree — I’m just afraid this will end with a race to the bottom bouncing between political party with more and more damage being done to the country.

Using that reasoning why shouldn’t the Republicans beat y’all to the punch. They could have packed the court and had their wall with just a simple majority vote using the nuclear option.

Democrats are the only legitimate reason I can see to support the Republicans or Trump. Not because they worth a damn just cause y’all are just as bad if not worse.

On Topic Trump can’t impede or delay response to a disaster he already declared. He was just running his mouth again. F75F35C4-528D-4A43-98B5-69208DAAE647.png

what are you talking about, they got their SC pick with only 50 votes, dems could not stop them, republicans did change the rules, they stacked the court, it used to take 60 votes giving the minority party a say, this kept the court fairly moderate

Trump may not be able too, but he wanted too, and that is Sad!

Robert, the President shut down the government. Is anything getting through the Senate to the President?

Biggest falsehood in the last forty minutes: "Using that reasoning why shouldn’t the Republicans beat y’all to the punch. They could have packed the court and had their wall with just a simple majority vote using the nuclear option."

Absolute fake news and alt facts.

The Democrats did it for the lower courts before they lost the senate. I know why cause it was the only way to get anyone confirmed. Same reason Republicans extended it to the SCOTUS was only way to ever get anyone on the court in the current hyper partisan environment we are in.

To support extending it even further and not think they won’t return the favor is delusional.

I agree, and republicans were able to take advantage of that too, that was stupid of dems, it's why Trump has filled so many of those seats

republicans did it with the SC picks and dems will also benefit from that change

if you read my posts here at the time, I said this would come back to haunt dems when they did it and say the same for republicans for the change they made for SC picks

it was short sighted for both parties

They are already packing the court. They refused to hear a SCOTUS seat until after trump was in office. Electing two further right judges. They are holding the government hostage by refusing to floor a vote on a bill that had previously passed the Republican senate. I haven’t seen the blatant lies and corruption of this administration in my lifetime. Not mentioning the voter suppression, gerrymandering and outright attempts to steal elections or power.

If you believe the Democrats are worse than what the Republicans are doing you are likely one of the people that trump said would support him even if he shot someone in Times Square.

that is the worst thing about this admin, the lies, the lies are just so blatant, it's like no one cares anymore - this really harms this country, it will take a long time to heal from this Trump administration

I would expect nothing less and don’t blame them. Would be foolish for the democrats to not take advantage. It really the only way to get anyone confirmed at this stage.

Taking further however isn’t going to help anyone IMO.

Still only 9 justices last I checked. Maybe you think they used dirty tricks but that isn’t packing the court.

While I admit I prefer the readings of the more conservative justices on the 2nd amendment. I wouldn’t want anyone to pack the court increasing the number of justices. I Don’t support Trump like him less all the time. I’m not a social conservative or Republican.

that is the way the founders wanted it, if the people are too divided, things stay as they are, when people want change they will vote for it

change is supposed to be hard so it doesn't tilt one way or the other drastically based on who is in power, it give stability to the system

all's republicans or dems needed was 60 votes, the voters refused to give that to them - which means they needed to pick moderates

they changed the rules to 50 and denied Obama a vote, one of those picks was his, the other should of been a moderate

dems will raise the number of Justices to 11 when they take over, then seat the new judges with 50 votes

republicans will be upset just like dems are now.... that is what happens, pay back is a B

Agree change should be hard but picking out a “moderate” judge or justice isn’t so simple. Can’t see how we get get back to needing 60 votes to confirm them in our current state. Don’t want to see it extended to everything else to though.

FDR tried to pack the court and lost. That idea already failed.

I don’t “think” they used dirty tricks, they did. Just as they are doing now by refusing to hear a floor vote on the shutdown.

SCOTUS was not meant to be a partisian tool but that is what the republicans have turned it to.
Stacking the court was one of trumps campaign promises — if Democrats have to use the tools given to them by the people to correct it, then, so be it.

I don’t think they will but maybe I giving them too much credit. If they do what you think happens next time the other party takes power?

Goes back to my original response. That isn’t moderate or trying to bring anyone back together. So when people that might not like Trump but agree with the interpretations of more conservative justices read that you think they will pick to side with democrats? IMO was a big reason why Trump won was that a scotus pick was on the line.

It sad that this is what we have come to as a country. I know you smart enough to know where that will lead. I already seen you say as much but yet your cool with it so be it. Democrats will take control again yes but so will the Republicans least if we last long enough as a country.

Why I don’t post here much anymore no moderates left just the two extremes trying to piss the other side off. Sounds just like the people that have been elected to lead us so I shouldn’t be surprised.

Just to attempt to drift the thread back on topic

    1. Hurricanes don't hit every year

    2. Hurricanes don't hit the same areas repeatedly

    3. Hurricanes hit from Texas to New Jersey to Florida

    4. Nothing can be done to prevent hurricanes

You say you are "just wanting to see how far republicans are willing to go to hurt other Americans over pure politics", so I'll ask ---- how far are Democrats willing to go to hurt other Americans over pure politics?

You are so partisan you can't see that the accusations you fling at "the other guy" apply to "your side" too, and often more so.

Guv Newsom wants a new drinking water tax. That should cover any shortfalls.

Air breathing tax ain't far off.

we should stop giving cali our water if gavon actually taxes it as he has said, why should cali profit from water that doesn't belong to them... dam up all the rivers flowing into cali and cut them off...
