Is it disgusting to wish death upon someone with whom you disagree politically?

Republicans have told me in the past that nobody wants to see RBG dead. But as I've said repeatedly, there are many within your ranks calling for her death. The comment from this poster is the most blatant example of this that I've seen. Do we all agree that it is disgusting to wish death on somebody because we disagree with their politics?

It is disgusting to wish death upon anyone you disagree with politically. However, there is a difference between looking forward to somebody's demise and being indifferent toward it when it does happen.

I am not counting the days to Dick Cheney's demise (he could even outlive me), but I do hope people will boycott his funeral.

 

Trump is almost in the Pol Pot type of "let's get rid of those leaders" group.

Probably you are confusing calling for her death as opposes to her just calling it quits. There is a time and place for everything. In my opinion, every judge should be required to retire at age 70 regardless of political leanings or health.

I suppose it depends exactly what the other person believes, and what their intents are.

In general I'd say no, but these types of things are fundamentally a matter of degrees, and there must no doubt by some extreme hypothetical scenarios where anything would be appropriate.

Wisdom is discerning exactly where that line is.

I try to be civil, except in certain cases where I know it's just wilful ignorance on the other side, which gets to me.
I haven't hoped death on anyone here, but at times I have hoped someone would bop them with a cardboard tube.

 

You should be careful your phrasing... 'calling for death' =/= 'wishing for death'

Wishing for death: "I can't wait to see this [obituary] for real..." (and ftr I agree its very unpalatable)

Calling for death: “it’s about time for a presidential assassination.” (just one of many calls for Trump to be killed over the last few years)

Can you spot the difference? Hint: one is borderline illegal, and one is just mean.

Do you find one of these more 'disgusting' than the other? I find them both equally unpalatable. But they're both pretty much par for the course these days, politics being what they are.

That said, I wish Justice Ginsburg a long and happy life after she retires from the court... which should happen yesterday.
