Why do conservatives need to lie about the size of the debt in 2008?
Official Dept. of the Treasury numbers:

Ronald Reagan added $1.86 trillion to the debt - a 186% increase.
George HW Bush added $1.55 trillion to the debt - a 54% increase.
Bill Clinton added $1.39 trillion to the debt - a 32% increase.
George W. Bush added $5.85 trillion to the debt - a 101% increase.

Before Obama's first fiscal year the debt was already $11.65 trillion (total debt accrued since Johnson).

Obama added $8.58 trillion to the debt - a 74% increase.

Trump has added another $2.45 trillion in his first two years.

The immediate consequences are ever increasing interest payments on the debt that eat up any imagined gains from tax cuts. We are eating our own children in an attempt to make the balance sheet look better in the short term.

The tax rates did not drop by 50%. If you paid only 50% from the previous year, then there is another variable in your taxes.

Selective outrage? I'm not outraged by the taxes, you are the one who is making such claim. Are we even on the same thread. I have no outrage here, YOU DO. Your desperation to get away from your BS is obvious.

Well so far the tax cuts haven't been helpful in the wallet.

    https://www.aol.com/article/finance...-as-angry-taxpayers-vent-on-twitter/23665728/
The average refund check paid out so far has been $1,865, down from $2,035 at the same point in 2018, according to IRS data. Low-income taxpayers often file early to pocket the money as soon as possible. Many taxpayers count on the refunds to make important payments, or spend the money on things like home repairs, a vacation or a car.

I too made more and paid less in taxes. It was great! I’ll be investing some of my money for retirement, as well as spend some in the economy...making America great again!!

What does a refund have to do with tax liability? And total taxes paid?

How?....what in the "tax cut" caused your tax liability to go up. You would be the exception, what in the "tax cut" caused that to happen? Why the the obtuseness and repetitive non-answers?

I know, some dont realize getting a smaller refund on the same tax liability is a GOOD thing. If my CPA looked at me and proudly announced look at this BIG refund you are getting let's do it again next year I'd fire him.

No you at the least grow spending less than you grow the economy. But after the huge spending increases under Democrat budgets and policies we need to cut first and then restrain further growth. Tax increases don't do it long term.

one thing to remember is the middle class tax cuts are temporary, they were a carrot to get the permanent tax cuts for the rich that republican really wanted

republicans plan to try to use that carrot to get more tax cuts for the rich again in the future.. watch and see

President's don't solely control budgets and spending. Listing how debt solely on who was President is folly. The last four years of Clinton's term were Republican budgets. The last two years of Bush43 with their $400B and the $1,400B deficits were Democrat budgets. And Reagan requested less spending every year in office than Congress authorized and they refused to pass all the spending recisions he sent them. And shall I even mention the Bush41 agreement with the Democrat promise to cut spending if he agreed to their tax increases, we never got the spending cuts.

Yes. Tax liability but how much of a refund does one get is what matters. I want as small a refund as possible, that means I paid a correct tax and didn’t give the govt an interest free loan

There is no permanent tax cut for the rich. The GOP tried to make the tax cut permanent for all taxpayers but the Dems blocked it

Democrat budgets. Hell, Trump had the entire Republican Congress and they ended up spending 2.4 trillion more than we took in in just two years. Roses do not grow from Republican asses any more than the Democrats when it comes to spending.

The President signs off on the budget. He doesn't have to. The buck stops there unless Congress over-rides his veto.

Yes they get negotiated except like 2009 which wasn't even presented to Bush. And historically Democrats have wanted higher spending and Republicans lower spending. And then I just know how you would support a Presidential shutdown over the budget. You DO support those right? And as with Bush 41 the Democrats don't do as they say in those budgets.

The deductions for certain state taxes on the Federal tax returns disappeared. They capped the property tax deduction at something like $12,000. It doesn't affect the middle class people. Anyone paying those kind of taxes either has a mansion or multiple homes. My house is worth about $450k and I pay about $2,000 a year.

Hey I'm all for more fiscally conservative Republicans in the Congress, get rid of the Democrats and the RINO's. The we can have some serious fiscal responsibility and get the budget back in order. How about you? Do you REALLY think Pelosi and Schumer would be the ones to do it?

2000 sq/ft 4bd 2 bath worth $160,000 where I live. Property tax $569. We have a 9% sales tax and ad valorem taxes on cars, high alcohol taxes, mine on a 2013 mid-size about $140. If those states want to have high property taxes that is their business but that should get them off the hook on their federal and paying a lower effective tax rate than I do.
