Yes, that's how behavioral economics works. It is based on averages, not on individual behavior that you deem acceptable because it may be responsible or not. In the same way, you can say that car makers are really behaving irresponsibly by selling vehicles that the average consumer cannot afford, with full knowledge that they are eroding their own future profits with non-sustainable expensive car sales. Oh wait, that exact thing happened before 2008 and led to the great recession.

You can dream about people being responsible all you want, it is not going to happen. Same as lecturing about contraception by abstinence is not going to make people abstinent.

 

Actually, the average monthly total cost of ownership is $706 per month. That makes this calculation even worse. And that's just one car, whereas the typical family has two. How is it done? By longer and longer car loans. Not sustainable!!!

Haha, that's very funny. It is probably mostly conservatives who take out 72 months car loans because they believe that Trump is winning for them and now they can afford to spend. If conservatives were financially responsible, as they proclaim, the average savings rate would be greater than a few %. I remember a conservative member of the forum (he doesn't post anymore) who bought a new RV because Trump made the stock market go up. That's the level of economic understanding that is displayed by the average folk, no matter whether conservative or liberal. This thread is living proof of how leftists think. Someone else is always responsible for their problems. Life isn't fair. These people have too much money. These are all leftist talking points, and all of them stem from their belief that they deserve more than they have, and that they shouldn't have to do anything to get it. People who do have things in life didn't get them from working hard, they got them because they're a different skin color.

We just, until January, had a GOP stranglehold on all 3 branches of government during which they rolled back many of the regulations on banks,credit unions and payday lenders as well as mortgage restrictions.In essence they made it easier for the previously unqualified to borrow.As a result just like when the same thing was done under BUSH,we will see more foreclosures and seized autos and lenders getting in financial trouble.

 

Read the thread I recently created on "what are your incentives to work hard". That may give you some insight, instead of projecting your stereotyped image of "leftists" that you have created in your mind.

 

A bit of data which by itslef tells us absolutely nothing. Where's the rest of the story? New car, used car, or both? How many such loans have been written over the last two to three years? Why are they behind. What percentage of the loans written are behind is that a record? Is the percentage low or average? Wait we don't from the article know any of these answers ergo the data set by itself is meaningless and can't honestly be used to support anything. But the the truth never matters t leftists anyway.
