Don't forget that California has the highest number of Native Americans. Just look at all the casinos!

just because you can flood a territory with people doesn't negate who it belonged to...

It is literally true that only a minority of Californians speak English without an accent. Certainly the case in Los Angeles.

    Thank you for admitting that.

Now, what percent of Californians today, under the age of 30, do you think grew up in a home where English was not the first language?
    Maybe 40 or 50 percent?

The Mexican government only held the territory for 27 years.

lol...they got priced out and people who work for less can afford to move in ?...please explain that bizarre economic twist...apparently those immigrants are still making a good living in the construction industry if they can afford to live there

I'll tell you why the the construction industry has so many immigrants, again it's the same everywhere and the same as it was in the past...english isn't a requirement in construction, construction trades are difficult work...not speaking english well makes it easy for immigrants to enter, that it's difficult work doesn't appeal to native born...the construction industry was the entry point for immigrants when I entered the construction industry 50 yrs ago and it still is today...50 yrs ago it was italians, germans, poles and dutchmen today it eastern european, chinese, phillipino, latino's...nothing has changed only the ethnic groups filling the positions...

and the US never held the land for any years before it was taken....Israel held the territory for zero years and yet Americans have no issue disenfranchising the Palestinian claim to the land they never vacated...

Because they're working longer hours and packing multiple income earners into the same home.

No wonder some of these kids go on to become juvenile delinquents if their parents are gone working 65 hours a week to pay the rent.

In some areas in Santa Ana it's not uncommon for police to find 30-40 people packed into the same house. This situation has existed since the late 80s.

Actually I met an old white guy on the bus from the South. He was a painter, and had travelled to California because, he said, he heard there was work, but couldn't afford to have a car with the cost of his rent.
Guess he hadn't heard about or realized what the cost of living would be.

Not the way I remember it.

Construction trades hanging sheetrock, framing, roofing were all well paying jobs that Americans did until illegal aliens from Mexico depressed the wages and made those jobs undesirable.

Same thing happened in the meat packing houses.

Back when Las Vegas was still sin city it was white women making the beds with hospital folds in the hotels and all of the other jobs at the hotel-casinos (valet parking, bellhops, cooks, etc.) were well paying jobs and some extremely well paying jobs with a waiting list years long for an opening.

Flipping burgers were jobs for highschool students and college students. Never intended to be a career to raise a family on.

During the 1980's in L.A. blacks cleaned the high rise offices buildings making $10 per hour which wasn't to shabby back in 1980.

It's illegal aliens who make American jobs undesirable.

On the contrary, they have a water supply, it's just not been enough lately, but that is changing.

Living in a warm desert WITH a water supply is the most pleasant and prosperous climate there is and was the basis of humanity's two oldest civilization's, in Egypt and Iraq

Already in the 80s Southern California had to steal the water from the Arizona river, through the Colorado Aqueduct. The situation has only gotten worse.
Now the state's population has reached 40 million. That's more than the population of the entire country of Canada.

The Californios were Castilians, white Europeans.

The Mestizo Mexicans didn't start appearing in California until the 1820's.

Even then they kept confined in the Los Angeles and San Diego area.

The Californios referred to the Mexicans as "Cholos."

Not a credible source but it's Friday and I'm thinking about taking a siesta.

There were never that many Mexicans in the Los Angeles San Diego area.

The 1900 U.S. Census recorded that, out of 100,000 residents in the city of Los Angeles, only between 319 to 619 were Spanish or Mexican, for example.
Los Angeles was pretty much the biggest city in the region at that time, and the center of population.

The Colorado River water is federal water.

One day the federal government told California that they are taking federal water from the Colorado River and giving it to Arizona and California really should rethink about having the welcome mat out at the border because there will soon not be enough water for 40 million people.

There were very few of them.

And about half the Hispanics in California at the time were White Spanish.

Mexico only held the territory for 27 years between independence from Spain and the annexation of the territory to the United States.

Republicans should be very worried in Texas. Latino hate for Trump will turn Texas blue again. Where will all the yahoos go? North Dakota?

California doesn't care. They will just make their people suffer under stricter water rationing.

Maybe people won't be allowed to have grass lawns in the future.

    That's the mentality of Socialism.

I know many households where English was not spoken, and it didn't matter with their children. But look, every group of people that came contributed something to our culture, nothing wrong with that. Are we better because of it, I don't know, but that's how our nation was formed. Benjamin Franklin complained about the amount of Germans that were coming, and how it would change the culture - and it probably did the same as the Irish Catholics did and those who came after them.

When Tocqueville visited in the early 19th century he found enclaves where Dutch, French, and German was spoken, and many had attachments to their home country and went back often, that is if they could afford it. There were also native Americans, and there was a great deal of intermarriage - most likely with the French fur trappers. I read recently that the brown eyed Kentuckians are descendants of the Cherokees.

There were more English speakers in California in 1848 than Spanish speakers.

The Californios and Mexicans in California surrendered to the "Bear Flag Republic" (California Republic) without a shot being fired in June of 1846.
