No, he's guilty so he still owes the taxes. The question is how he will ever pay. Remember that he also owes millions to Russian oligarchs - who don't have the same ideas on collections that we do.

In fact, he will still owe the back taxes even if Trump pardons him.

Let's remember: Taxes are not a penalty.

Well, the OP wasn't about that - nor are his various convictions to date.

I'm just saying I don't even SLIGHTLY believe were nearing the end of the charges against Manafort.

And, I don't just mean New York.

I don't agree with this "it was politics" argument.

When prosecutors go to roll up a highly placed criminal they start at the bottom. They start picking off the guys at the bottom, requiring them to face serious penalties if they don't roll over on those above them.

If Manafort had been less central to the cause of the Mueller investigation (Trump/Russia) he probably wouldn't have been in that line, and he might have gotten away with his dozens of crimes - amazingly enough!

He just totally overdid it - owing millions to oligarchs, being the campaign chairman of the election Russia hacked, being an unregistered foreign agent, making false statements to the IRS, criminal bank fraud, playing with his Trump Superpac money, Assange, etc., etc.

Going after that can't be claimed to be political - it's just FAR too far over the limit and it involves a foreign attack on our democracy. That caused a Republican administration to select a Republican investigator (Mueller) who has stuck to the script like glue.

    Nobody can whine about that.

So, what is this idea that if there is a political connection, numerous federal crimes should be ignored?

I hope that's not where you're going with this.

Yes, it's Mueller going after the Russia connection.

This guy has rock solid Republican credentials. Deciding his a POS because he's doing his JOB hits me as something you should just get over.

Dude, that guy is no more republican than John McCain. Rosenstein is deep state as well. I mean, you can continue to make a fool of yourself if you want, but repeating the same horseshit over and over is tiring. Tell us about this nonexistent Manafort - Assange connection. The guy was on the campaign for 3 whole weeks.

    That's exactly were I'm going.

If he was connected to Democrats, he's not getting prosecuted. If he was a good Republican, he's not getting prosecuted. He was only prosecuted for show against Trump. That is all.

None of those are charges. They are observations. And none of them are really debatable. And, by the way, Manafort was charged with activities related to these people.

Any school boy can grow up to be president they say, but the lesson here is if that school boy grows up completely outside of the swamp, and you get involved in such a presidential campaign, they're going to be coming for you with white gloves and a fine tooth comb.

If Manafort is pardoned or gets his sentence commuted so should all other people in prison for tax evasion and bank fraud. That would be fine with me. We have too many non violent offenders in prison already.

Surprise surprise. Crimes normally involve more than one person. Still Manafort is not linked to Russia nor any crimes involving Trump.

Manafort is a crook, done and proven, and he got a very lenient sentence.

The guy pardoning him is an unindicted crook who may have had knowledge and even involvement in Manafort's crimes and has a personal interest in taking care of Manafort in order to cover his own behind. A pardon would be unwarranted and in the poorest judgment and taste under the circumstances. But these considerations would never matter to nor stop Donald Trump, as they never have in the past. He serves himself. He surrounds himself with the BEST crooks, who, unlike poor Cohen, will not crack under pressure and tell the truth (which Trump calls lies, of course). Felix Sater is one such crook. Roger Stone is one such crook. Others who have been indicted, tried and convicted are such crooks. Trump has long run a small-time criminal enterprise and, I am quite sure, fed his ego greatly from the success he has enjoyed doing so. If there is anyone who would take great pleasure in outwitting law enforcement and the general public, it would be Donald Trump, who is now manipulating hundreds of millions of American voters. Trump is in heaven as long as he is "winning," at least by his own perception, in such a position. An ego such as his would never settle for less than becoming and remaining the most powerful man on the planet.

I am not a judge. I was never on the Jury. I prefer hearing from the Jury vs any poster, even myself.

So, what is jail? A cage of humans. Why are people so eager to cage humans when they whine about slavery? Slavery is not as bad as being caged all the time.

I am holding my fire on Stone. I think he has a chance he is not guilty.

Are we to assume guilt or innocence?

It has nothing to do with Trump. I can't connect Trump to crimes of others when they had no involvement.
