Exactly. There are billions of us currently living on far less than even the poorest American, and without any opportunity of escaping such conditions. Your Buckmeister offends every one one of them.

If they do, it is probably their own fault, or the fault of the parents.

Human nature + Finite resources. If you've not worked through the extrapolations (factoring in BOTH), you have little to nil basis for argument. Though it would explain why you think in Disneyesque terms like 'forever'.

We only do that to those who choose poverty then complain about it (First Worlders). When folk are genuinely poor through no fault of their own (Third Worlders etc), we care very much. It's they we'd rather see resources go to.

Exactly. The social safety net and private food banks and other charity services require responsible people to access those services.

You think Jesus was referring to 21stC First Worlders who own iphones and eat more meat in a week than a Third Worlder does in a month?

I don't want to eat them. They're full of saturated fat and chemicals, and lack the flavour provided by a wide range of vegetables in the diet.

I would like to put them to work though. They could grow vegetables for the homeless.

Given his comments, it seems highly likely. No clue of the real work of survival.

I categorise LONG TERM (more than 3 months) welfare recipients as slobs, yes. Happily.

And I'm someone who not only worked my way out of poverty (the hardest way possible, let me add), but is trained in the observation of the human animal.

No, just because ANYONE can. That's precisely what makes America (and similar nations) the best places on earth.

inequality isn't an entity. it has no power. it can't DO anything. and no one is going hungry. NO ONE.

So your idea is to protect and coddle the irresponsible parents who caused such a situation? You're more interested in saving the feelings of such people, than in protecting the infinite number of future children who will be necessarily be born to such enabled irresponsibility?

That can only happen if you actually take the time to consider the implications of your position. We are talking about Progressives here. That's like expecting religious fundamentalists to apply logic to their dogma.

Yes, they move to California - for the weather. They actually admit it.

When parents are blowing a lot of the family budget on smokes because they're hooked, that matters. Can they stop? I think so. Do they? Some do, many do not. Most of us would cut off our arm before letting our kids go hungry.

All of them are hungry by choice - aged people included. It's on every set of new parents to create and sustain a stable and secure family .. for that reason. It's on the family then, to care for its aged. If we choose not to establish families, then it's on us to secure enough wealth to offset our old age. These are fundamental essentials. No one is so special that they don't need to do either.

Yet some STILL choose to do neither. They choose to divorce, or alienate their children, or stay single yet never save for their old age. Etc etc. Such people are spoiled children, and it's unreasonable to expect others to care when they clearly didn't. Luckily for them, the aged pension still exists. It won't forever though, as the population is continuing to age.

That's the point. They are CHOOSING to smoke. Which means they are CHOOSING to be 'poor'.

And the cities in which they can pitch tents wherever they please, take over the parks, defecate at will, shoplift with impunity, and create an epidemic of property damage crime. Not to mention the used hypodermic syringes on the ground and typhus in LA.

Yes, apparently it's no problem at all to travel from Nebraska to LA when there's a nice balmy sunset involved. But you can never do the reverse trip for reasons of survival. Nuh uh .. no sir.

My parents, my brother, and myself all started with nothing. We all have college degrees and well paying, professional type jobs. My parents are now retired. My dad was the only one who never got an education, but he ran his own business for 50 years. He put my mom through college and kept several people employed his whole career. It can be done. We did it. No welfare.

So you're saying that SE Asian's didn't take up drugs/drinking? While I find that hard to believe, I'm sure you have a link proving your allegations?
