And why not? It is perfectly legal and proper so long as it is not paid for, like Hillary's dossier.

Because no one "gives" anything for nothing. When a foreign government (especially one that is an adversary) "gives" you something they want something in return.

Ya know...like allowing them to expand into other countries...or relieving sanctions.

Trump is laying the groundwork for the admission that he did "collude" with the Russian government

The legality of it depends on what strings are attached. The impropriety is obvious: don't legitimize a foreign adversary by accepting direct help from them. This is so non-controversial, I can't imagine anyone would dispute it.

What Clinton did was pretty sketchy as well, but at least she went through an American company that went to a British national, instead of directly meeting with Russians peddling dirt.

Who wouldn't listen? Dims didn't seem as concerned about illegal money given to Rapist Billy, illegal campaigning in the white house by Gore the Bore, and now illegally foriegn fund raising done by Obama the bumbler.

Why is it repugnants can never stay on topic? Instead it's 'neener neener neener...Hillary did this or Bill did that...or Gore did this...money given to rapist Billy. For Christ sake can't you just address the original topic presented and then go and start a topic on Hillary...Bill...Gore...Billy...or any other democrat of your choice.

You denigrate the millions who volunteer their time and services all the time. But you must have missed them.

Clinton paid for the helped assistance of a foreign asset which is prima facie against the law. But maybe to you that doesn't look as bad as some Trump guys spending a few minutes listening to a lobbyist.

Righties had a problem with that as evident on this forum. Yet now when it comes to Trump, y'all are changing your tune. Flippity Flop.

Why not take it? What if the dirt was that his opponent is a terrorist? He would be impeached if he didn't listen.

Couple that with Hillary's server most likely being hacked by Russians after the Clinton foundation received millions from Russia about the same time Hillary approved the sale of urianium to Russia as Secretary of State. Nothing to see here. Just ask Comey.

With a couple off hand sentences Trump got every Dem to go before the cameras and say any foreign contact is suspicious and needs to be investigated. LOL.

There is virtually no comparison to what Trump said. Trump said he would be happy getting dirt on an opponent from a foreign adversary. "It's not an interference, they have information -- I think I'd take it," Trump said.

He dismissed calling the FBI. “I don’t think in my whole life I’ve ever called the F.B.I. In my whole life,” Trump said. “You don’t call the F.B.I. You throw somebody out of your office, you do whatever you do.” He added, “Give me a break — life doesn’t work that way.”

The Steele Dossier was reported to the FBI in early 2016.

The Clinton campaign was not involved with a foreign government. Steele was a former British intelligence officer, and a private investigator at the time he was hired to do oppo research, which is a common practice in political campaigns. To compare the Steele Dossier to what Trump said, as Congressman Kevin McCarthy did, is ludicrous and a sign of desperation.

So, it is okay with you if our President conspires with hostile foreign governments like Russia and China to get dirt on a political opponent.

Comrade, what is the weather like in Moscow this time of the year?

Easy to understand why you support Trump. You two think alike.

Clinton paid for a private investigation that ended up being reported to the FBI.

That's not even close to taking oppo research from a government of an adversarial power...who is GOING to want "something" in return..and NOT reporting it to the FBI
