Hope Hicks won't answer questions about the White House in congressional interview

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks is not responding to any questions about her time at the White House in a closed-door congressional interview Wednesday, angering Democrats who say they expect to go to court to force her to answer their questions.

White House attorneys are objecting to all questions related to the White House, Democrats say, all the way down to where Hicks sat in the West Wing. But Hicks is answering questions about her time on the Trump campaign.

The White House is not asserting executive privilege, but arguing that Hicks has absolute immunity from testifying as a senior adviser to President Donald Trump. Democrats called that legal claim "ridiculous" and "absurd" as they signaled they will likely challenge it in court.

Just freaking laughable... NOBODY's time in the WH is subject to "Absolute Immunity" .... If anybody was potentially subject to that, it was McGahn, and they blew that once he spoke with Mueller and waived it.

I have no idea what Hicks can add to the pile of bricks building up over the bald man, but she cannot claim blanket "immunity". People usually only get "Immunity" when they are likely to have also committed crimes, and I don't believe Hicks falls in that category.

I believe there will be a full transcript released at some point. Let's see what sort of questions she and the WH are avoiding.

Somebody needs to spend a few days in jail to think their positions over. If judges can throw people in jail for contempt, I see no reason Congress cannot do the same (temporarily of course)

Why do we care? Better question, why should we care? This is simply more grandstanding by house democrats in their bid to be as annoying as possible, and clearly without intending to provide value to the nation. So, why should we care, at all? Where were these same apoplectic democrats when it was Louis Lehrner or Sally Yates who refused their questions? Oh yeah, supporting them. Lest we forget this is what democrats crafted as their own model. And now they are displeased when others use their tactics? Utterly laughable.

No it's not OOJ....the President has the right to grant immunity. As you highlighted, he allowed the WH Counsel, and others including Hicks to speak at length with Mueller. So there is no OOJ. He doesn't have to continue to cooperate with Congress. Nothing was waived either, Congress is a seperate body.

The BOP is run by the Executive Branch, I don't see the President locking up anyone, or prosecuting anyone...much like how Obama never prosecuted Holder.

Whether or not she ever let Old Fat Bone Spurs sniff her Unlaundered Panties clearly falls under "Executive Privilege".

She has immunity from Congress trying to sanction her over not testifying to internal policy debates within the Executive branch with the President. Executive privilege which the courts have routinely recognized. And the report is quite clear which questions she is avoiding, those the Congress has no right to ask or demand of the Executive Branch. This is not a "justice" issue, the Congress is NOT the JUDICIAL branch.

 

And administrations routinely do not give Congress testimony as to internal deliberations just as Congress does not give such information to the Executive. Do you think if Trump demanded Schumer and Pelosi turn over their internal meeting notes and have their staffs come to the White House and be grilled on what they are up to Schumer and Pelosi would just say SURE?

The immunity thing is not going to fly in the courts...never has before..

 

The White House instructed her not to testify and about discussions within the Executive branch, that is executive privilege by definition and Congress has no right to that. And the courts will recognize that if the Democrats dare try to go there.

Yes it is the White House Counsel told the Democrats in advance that her time in the White House and on the transition team would not be subject to inquiry under executive privilege and constitutional immunity. The Democrats will lose if they go to court to try and compel it.
