Sorry, this is truly breaking news on MSNBC, so I cannot find an actual link yet... the thread title is the bottom of the screen on that channel...

Apparently, It was 5-4, with Roberts siding with the human SCOTUS members...

    More as I find it...

    Link from VOX

    https://www.vox.com/2019/6/27/18759621/supreme-court-census-decision-citizenship-question-ruling

I couldn't find one on the GatewayPundit.... they must be on the Eric Trump spitting case.

Thread question - Who agrees or disagrees with this decision??

SCOTUS says Trump Admin didn't give adequate explanation for adding question..

Shocker.... The Trump Administration hasn't given adequate explanation for a single freaking thing they've "done" in 2.5 years...

It shouldn't take the SCOTUS to tell anybody that...

It’s just temporary. The ruling said the government can ask the question. The administration just needs to clarify why it’s needed.

And they won’t be able to come up with a better answer before they have to print the forms. How long have they had to make up something believable? If they couldn’t yet, what’s gonna change?
Nothing I’m reading on this makes it sound like they’ll be able to get this on the form in time.

None of it matters. With open borders, we’ll be Zimbabwe in 50 years.

Which they will be unable to do without admitting the real reason behind it.... If they couldn't come up with a believable lie knowing it was going to the SCOTUS, what makes you think they can come up with something now???

Besides, the census forms have to be submitted for printing VERY soon (maybe Sunday?).... It's likely over for this census...

Another strike for this lawless, inhuman joke of an administration. Nice to see that Agent Orange hasn't managed to corrupt the SCOTUS too much so far. We need him out, and preferably his Senate enablers also, by next year to continue to protect that precious institution as well as to make the Executive great again.

    New evidence presented
After arguments before the high court, opponents of the question informed the court they had obtained "new evidence" that the decision was politically motivated. They say the intention was to intimidate minority households from responding in order to reduce Democratic Party representation.
A federal trial judge earlier this month said he believes new evidence presented "raises a substantial issue."
Late last month, the ACLU obtained a hard drive with about 75,000 documents, including a 2015 study from a Republican redistricting expert, Dr. Thomas Hofeller, who they say played a significant role in the decision to add the question.
Hofeller, who has since died, wrote that using "citizen voting age" population as the redistricting population base would be "advantageous to Republicans and Non-Hispanic Whites."

Yeah, it's a few weeks... still pretty tight timeframe

The decision makes it difficult for the Commerce Department to justify the question and make it part of the census before the forms have to be printed in only a few weeks.

I hear ya.... I personally don't think much of this issue either way.... If the question exists on the census, I will likely answer it, just because I generally fill out forms fully as a rule, but I expect those that don't feel comfortable answering that single question, won't.

They will still be counted in the census.

I just like it when the Trump administration is chastised for their characteristic lameness..

    SNIP
“Altogether, the evidence tells a story that does not match the explanation the Secretary gave for his decision,” Roberts concluded. “We are presented, in other words, with an explanation for agency action that is incongruent with what the record reveals about the agency’s priorities and decisionmaking process.”

What the Chief Justice is trying NOT to say here is that the administration and Ross is 100% full of ****

" Electoral votes are allocated among the states based on the Census. Every state is allocated a number of votes equal to the number of senators and representatives in its U.S. Congressional delegation—two votes for its senators in the U.S. Senate plus a number of votes equal to the number of its members in the U. S. House of Representatives"
    https://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/allocation.html

I don't wanna ever hear a Democrat say gerrymandering again as they look the other way when non citizens are used to determine our elections ffs

    Great stuff.

Hopefully Roberts follows suit in any future challenges to Roe or the ACA.

They need to do a better job in the Census of differentiating who's legal and who's not.

Just as they have a legal obligation to make sure each Census form comes from an actual person living in that state, they also have an obligation to make sure that each of those people being counted for determining future number of Congressional seats are legal.

The Constitution says the numbers for representation "are to be counted by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons", so that presumably means that illegal aliens are to be counted as three fifths of a person, so we need to know how many of them there are so we do not overcount them.

California is already getting screwed in electoral college and congressional representation. If a state with 11 people gets one member of congress then California should get one congressmen for every 11 people. But that isn’t how it works.
