It takes 10% of the population to overthrow a government. Gun owners are what? I fall into your hunter hobbiest catagory. Because of the lefts radicalization i would side with the constitution.
1. The Orlando nightclub shooter had a FL armed security guard license. This requires a psychiatric exam, and about a week of training. That's the thing I notice. People who want to ban guns don't realize what the real world is like. You don't read enough about details, and then suggest these draconian plans, which would just be a pain in the ass for law-abiding gun owners, and do little or nothing to stop gun crime. 2. Probably most weapons in the U.S. are semi-automatic pistols. Also, bolt-action rifles are derivatives of military rifles. The two most common pump-action shotguns are or have been used by the U.S. military. 3. Please show me evidence of this. The only one that comes close to being spur of the moment that I can think of is the Sandy Hook shooter. The rest (including the Dayton and El Paso and Orlando nighclub shooter) all planned, and even scouted out the location for their massacres. Please show me, say two mass shooters (besides Sandy Hook, which I grant) that were spur of the moment. 4. Evidence of that contention. 5. I've posted this in my post #40 in this thread. In Heller, the SCOTUS ruled that self defense is the primary reason for the Second Amendment, and to require a self defense gun to be locked up and unusable is contrary to the Second Amendment. Not strange at all, but logical. 6. I'm all for gun safety training. I just think making it mandatory would just make it easier to ban guns, by making a course so honerous that nobody would take it. For example, in FL, one of the requirements for an armed teacher in a classroom is that teacher take a 144 hour gun training course. Of course that was designed to stop teachers from doing it. Any requirement can easily be modified in order to further harass the law-abiding. 7. Straw purchases are already illegal. Why should legal gun owners be punished and not allowed to buy more than an arbitrary number of guns? Also, it's already illegal to sell handguns across state lines, unless transferred between two licensed gun dealers. I live in a border county. It makes absolutely no sense for me to not be able to drive 10 miles to Alabama and buy a gun. All it does is harass me, and try to make my life more inconvenient, without doing a damned thing to stop criminals.
I think anyone who has a dangerous hobby should try to protect others from that hobby's inherent dangers, or find another hobby if they can't afford it
No, they don't. Most mass shooters plan out their crimes for months. For example, the Parkland shooter bought his gun in February 2017, a little over a year before he did the shooting. How do you make up this stuff? (see emphasis above)
Not every gun owner will go to the ramparts with you. Far from it. People do not run out and put their and their family's lives at risk for just the right to go shoot targets on weekends or kill a deer annually. Especially when the vast majority don't do those things anyway. Ain't. Gonna. Happen
Someone getting a gun while planning a mass shooting isn't a gun hobbyist. Maybe they're a mass shooting hobbyist.... But the overlap between folks who get a guns for lawful reasons and then decide to start murdering people are an anomoly.
That's what i am telling you. I am one of thoes hobbyists and will be on the correct side. So i am an example of how you are wrong.
Ok, Fine Being right means you got more people and everybody will come out to murder people in support of your right to buy guns completely unfettered. uh huh, gotcha
That's quite correct, but it's NOT how the public sees you. You people apparently have NO grasp of good PR "Try to take away our guns and we will kill you" is NOT a really effective way of convincing people you are not dangerous
But that is what the gunnies threaten all the time either overtly or by implication It should be noted that many of them don't seem to realize they are doing this. It's become so commonplace among them that they overlook the full implications of what they are saying.
The implication that some are self-professed in writing that they will kill to keep their weapons is that those are exactly the Red Flag candidates for which the government officials will be looking at.
Agreed except about reciprocity. Which I agree with in principle, but I think amounts to federal overreach and bad precedent. Some states mandate training for CCW, others dont. I dont think we should be able to mandate certain states recognize CCWs that arent up to their local standards, and neither should we mandate that all states adopt those higher standards. Perhaps a National CCW that meets training/BGC standards for all states should be made available in addition to state issued CCWs. This would of course negate certain states ability to 'may issue', which im not sure is proper.
1. Allow all Americans without a felony conviction to carry concealed. All the other problems will shrink to insignificance in short order.
As already stated, I would support any gun bill that requires sun-setting all existing gun control laws that cannot be proven with actual numbers, reported to the FBI to have been proven effective. Other than that I can not support any new laws until I see existing laws being enforced or sun-setted.
Addenda to #67 1(a) be required to have insurance 1(b) submit without protest to mental examination if required to by law
Attempting to manipulate human behavior by banning inanimate objects has historically not only failed, it has made the problem worse: i.e. Prohibition, "War on Drugs" etc. What part of: "Criminals don't obey laws." do hoplophobes not understand?
Nope, the guilt for all of it lies at the feet of the people seeking to use the constitution as toilet paper.
