Well lets put it simply. They are racist groups. Trump is a racist or at least uses racism for political advantage with his base. When the President of the US speaks and tweets racism it can't help but give support to the racist groups that support him.

And you know which group he was referring to since the context at the time was peaceful demonstrators versus the organized looking for trouble racist groups.

So your claim is Trump said there were good people in Antifa. I don't think so!

No, Trump referred to the good people that were there peacefully protesting either for the statues to remain or be brought down.

People destroying public and private property and assaulting other people are not "good" people.

    Try to keep up.

I believe Trump said there were good people on both sides. That implies first that there are only two sides and that he finds good people on both sides. One side was obviously the peaceful protestors one of which got killed by a member of the other side which was clearly the peopke who came to Charlotte to do violence.

That's a very simplistic view of the whole demonstration.

There were two sides. One side wanted the statues to remain. The other side wanted the statues to come down.

The side that wanted the statues to remain (like me) consisted of both peaceful demonstrators (like me) and violent demonstrators (like NAZIS).

The side that wanted the statues to come down consisted of both peaceful demonstrators (like Heather) and violent demonstrators (like Antifa).

Not all people on both sides were violent demonstrators and not all people on both sides were peaceful demonstrators.

    Do you understand now.

Who do you think that Trump was calling "fine" on the left's side? No one is saying that Antifa was the ONLY group on the left. There were obviously peaceful statue protestors on the left. And in response to the white supremacist take over, there were obviously peaceful counter protestors who I would've GLADLY joined had I been there!

Good break down. It's certainly not as simple as @CourtJester makes out.

Define “ good” since for some reason you put in caps.

“I think there is blame on both sides,” the president told reporters that day in August 2017.

“You had some very bad people in that group," Trump said, referring to the white nationalist groups rallying against removal of a Confederate statue. "But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.”

    Correct.

As I clearly explained in post #480.

Except of course the claim that Trump was referring to the peaceful demonstrators opposing removal of the statue is pure speculation.

No, it's not speculation. It's fact.

But it's NOT pure speculation that Trump was definitely referring to the white nationalists?

The same as whatever you think makes some on the other side "good." Do you at least think that the peaceful demonstrators on the right were not necessarily white nationalists?

Actually not sure since why would you demonstrate to preserve the legacy of the Confederacy. Not a whole lot to admire in my opinion.

If the people are not reminded of what the history of the united states is, they are ultimately doomed to repeat past failures. And seeing as so little is actually taught by the education system, and most individuals do not even know what a library is, public displays such as statues are necessary to force that reminder to be acknowledged.

You think that the only reason that people would want to keep them is because they "ADMIRE" them?

The comment was about the Confederacy not the statues. Read it again.

Are you claiming that schools no longer teach about the civil war?

You think that the only reason that people would want to keep them is to "preserve the legacy of the Confederacy", a legacy that they "admire?"

Considering how much of the subject material requires trigger warnings to avoid students becoming upset by reading about something unpleasant, and how many students need safe spaces so they can avoid being confronted by unpleasant thoughts regarding the real world, it is safe to conclude the truth of the civil war has been lost on the present generation, much like the importance of privacy and self-sufficiency.

Sorry but that is your opinion not fact.

And self sufficiency is a myth in the modern world.
