I just think that sort of thing from instructors just undermines anyone with authority. Children pick up enough of that sort of thing from todays sitcom geared towards younger audiences.. I think teaching fundamentals is the roll of a teachers and their OPINIONS should be kept to themselves! Let children make their own evaluations and they will be better individuals and more educated from those experiences!

I'm sure even teachers would have a problem with other teachers instilling values in their children that are contrary to how they might want their own children to be taught?

Well actually had she actually written the questions on the test she should be fired for such a question but she claimed she just downloaded the test and then didn't read the questions and for that she should be fired.

The above posts are examples of why teaching as a profession is in trouble. It seems many people don't even know what a teacher is supposed to be.

Teachers don't indoctrinate. We teach people HOW to learn. Above and beyond that, giving out our opinions as though they are facts to be believed is just outrageous, just not our job. We might as well start telling the kids what religion to believe or not to believe in it at all.

Trump is an idiot? Whose truth is that? Your "truth"? Nothing more than a mere opinion, and your opinions have been proven wrong here before. A teacher's personal opinions especially on politics are strictly to be kept OUT of the classroom. We don't deal in that. We might deal in some kind of critical thinking exercise where the kid would have to prove their opinion but even then it is not the job of the teacher to supply their own opinion as THE truth. We have higher standards than parroting political catchphrases in this profession and thank God for that. "Teacher of the Year"? More like Freak of the Week.

I'd bet dollars to donuts you've never called Obama an idiot because he thinks there are well over fifty states, can't figure out quite what a Navy Corpse-man is, that "We’re the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad”, and discussing "the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor." Guess what - I disagreed with a lot of what Obama did but I never EVER discussed him in that manner or gave my opinion of him because anything that could possibly influence the feelings of a student that might look up to me is morally and ethically wrong. And it'd be just as wrong if I did the same thing for any president from - hmm, Clinton was the Prez when I started - to the present.

Doof, what that teacher did - Ugh. All I can think of. Someone using their power as a leader to influence their charges into believing anyone who disagrees with them is an idiot. Someone who abuses their power as an educator to TELL children what to think, what to believe, how to vote. That teacher should have been fired on the spot for educational malpractice, but I rather doubt that happened. Heck, she probably made union rep.

I've said it before. I don't like Trump. He should not be President, and the only reason he IS President is because the grizzled old bat running against him was even worse than he is. But it isn't my place to say in front of impressionable children who look up to me. It is NOT my job at ANY time to tell them what to think, what to believe, or what to follow - and anyone who does should be given the boot.

 

Well, I'd LIKE to think that those of us who have accepted this calling - and it IS a calling, you can NOT do this job just for the money, you gotta love what you do - would think his job was a bit more valuable than that, but I guess that if he's gotta go, it might as well be a cautionary tale.

Now, what is it you're trying to tell us? That the person who said that doesn't have some terrible mental problem? No. That person clearly is has something seriously wrong with them.

Columbus never met the aztecs, you are mistaking him for Cortez. The people he met in the islands he discovered were much more peacefull than the aztecs, it was the Arawaks which disappeared both because of the extreme violence of the spanish and the diseases.

There is nothing wrong with being a teacher, but I have a real problem with teachers who force their political opinions on students in the the classroom. Just for that I say Trump is a billionaire turned President of the United States. I bet President Trump doesn’t know who this person is, but this person sure does know President Trump. Once again, nothing wrong with being a teacher. Politics should be debated and taught in classrooms but teachers should not force their beliefs or opinions on students.
