First off, how ****ing dumb is trump for thinking that awarding himself a massive no bid contract would not receive a tremendous amount of backlash. As if promising to host the event "at cost" without defining or attempting to prove what that meant would somehow absolve the obvious conflicts of interest.

CNN reported that Doral was not even part of the original list of options (nor any other Trump property) because of the massive and obvious conflict of interest.

Keep on fighting folks. There is good in the fight.

As I said elsewhere, Trump has to be publicly shamed into doing the right thing. It’s not something that comes naturally to him.

Gods, this is so pathetic- that we had the “toxic twins” Clinton and Trump as our choices last election.

Guess you’ve never been there. It’s a marginal resort in the middle of an industrial part of Miami with no views and terrible traffic. Security would have been difficult.

“I thought I was doing something very good for our country...”.

Translation - I never thought about anything but the Trump brand and my entire staff pointed out it was a decision that was going to hurt my reelection campaign...

There were a lot of Republicans who had major problems with the whole Doral Debacle as well. And we all know Trump - he would have found ways to make "his cost" much higher than the real cost - he's just built that way - born scam artist.

We don't know - Trump didn't open up bids. If he had done that in the first place, you might have an argument, because we would know.

Meh, you're speculating. He offered the facility FREE if that was legal. Dems still deny he works for no salary.

Like I said... saving taxpayer money is not on the left's agenda.

Sounds like someone was finally able to pierce his self-absorption bubble and successfully explain to him how this was a blatant violation of the Constitution. There's a reason why the WH refused to name the other places that had been considered.

We already have a very suitable place for this summit, with plenty of fine accomodations and meeting rooms. Using Camp David would be appropriate, impressive to the foreign dignitaries, and at minimal cost to taxpayers. The Doral resort was never more than Trump trying to transfer more of our money into his pocket.

He does work for a salary. The fact that he donates it is just the way he decides to spend it. It still goes straight from the Treasury into his pocket first. It is still an expense to the U.S.

No, he did not offer it for free. He offered it at cost ... he claimed he would offer it for free after it was no longer an option. Gods, that guy has you wrapped around his little finger. Sad.

Then he can produce the bids. Simple. Unless he was lying - which is his default mode.

It's always someone else's fault with Trump. He whines about the media and "the left" but it's much more likely that someone he respects, like maybe Ivanka or Jared, finally managed to pierce his pea-sized brain and explain to him why it is a corrupt act to award himself such a contract. He knows there's no way to insure that he makes no profit, he just wanted the old place upgraded at taxpayer expense.

Here is what the libs and their media's temper tantrum have achieved:

    1. The summit will end up costing twice the price for probably much worse accommodation to its participants.

    2. Trump who was going to host it at cost and make no profit off of it WILL now make a profit

Do you get this libs, thanks to you Trump's Doral property will make money for Trump while G-7 participants will pay double price.

    LOL

Fumigation, new carpets and furnishings, and at least one new helicopter pad would be needed, at taxpayer expense. "No profit" my ass.

Sorry. Doral is in the middle of an industrial part of Miami RIGHT under the approach pattern of MIA. Noisy as hell.
Since we haven't seen any bids, you have no idea of the cost and if it ends up being at Camp David, the cost is minimal.
