Why the fixation on the whistleblower identity?

What's the fascination with the whistleblowers identity?
The things he listed in his complaint have been verified by others.
    Some bullets:
    • Gathered reports over 4 months
    • Input from a handful of people
    • Effort was to undermine the US election
    • Pressure was to initiate or continue investigation of the Bidens and Crowdstrike.
    • Pressure to meet with Rudy or Barr
    • T. Bruebual was on call
    • Others were briefed on call
    • The transcript was removed from the standard storage and put on high classification server
    • Rudy had spoken earlier about Biden's claim on Ukraine.
    • Rudy pushed for removal of Yovanovitch
    • Volker & Sonland tried to control Rudy and explain his position to Ukraine
    • Rudy met in May with Ukraine president and told him to play ball if he wanted meeting with Trump
The last one is the only one I haven't heard from someone else.

So is his identity just to punish him in some way?

Probably some truth to that. But moreover it's easier to just attack the messenger than defend against the message. Appeals to trust like that are effective, especially when coupled with the very natural urge for confirmation bias. Which is why you see it used in the court of law, and in presidential primaries.

If someone accused you of something illegal, wouldn't you want to know who they are? Wouldn't you want to exercise your right to face them?

Even if he is. It's all been confirmed by other witnesses.

How does that impact at all the validity of his complaints? The validity of a claim is independent of the person making it.

If I were facing criminal penalties, yes. But Trump is not facing criminal penalties (yet).

The OP is asking a ridiculous question.
Why would anyone not know the identity of someone that had no first hand information of an event that motivated him/her/alphabet to try and bring down the POTUS. I want names and full background.

    I would but:

Confrontation Clause. The Confrontation Clause of the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "in all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right…to be confronted with the witnesses against him." ... The right only applies to criminal prosecutions, not civil cases or other proceedings.

There is no criminal prosecution, just second hand hearsay which is a bit suspicious wouldn't you agree?

Sorry dude...it's well beyond second hand. There were witnesses ON THE CALL confirming everything alleged...and worse.

You know I might, except it's all been corroborated by other witnesses.

    What?
Nobody wants to pick on a whistleblower claim and prove it wrong?
    Hmm.

His opinions were left out of the transcript.
    We all have opinions.
No other witness can corroborate his statement concerning the call.
    You have nothing.
