What is OUR oil doing under the sands of Mideast countries?

If Iran and Russia have been invited into Syria to assist with defense from foreign invaders, just how is Iran an aggressor?

In reality, countries that commit military aggression on the other side of the planet are the aggressors. You should review your definitions and start paying less attention to government propagandists.

    Certainly, Dayton,

The first example that comes to mind is Pearl Harbor attack.

FDR had already made clear his intent to drag America into another World War during his secret meetings with Churchill when the two of them composed the Atlantic Charter in 1940. At the time, 88% of Americans had made clear their strong opposition to engaging America in another war and in May of 1941, Hitler had sent Rudolph Hess to meet with the British with an offer to withdraw from Europe in order to better fight the USSR (1). Churchill, too, preferred war with Germany, rebuffed Hess's offer for a "well wishing neutrality" and Hess's subsequent fate is well known.

All that was necessary to engage America in another war was to sway American opinion. After multiple martial provocations, the Japanese did attack Pearl Harbor with FDR's full knowledge(2)

I hope you'll read both sources I cited in their entirety before forming a conclusion.

    Thanks,

    (1) "Nazis ‘offered to leave western Europe in exchange for free hand to attack USSR"
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/...in-exchange-for-free-hand-to-attack-USSR.html

EXCERPT "The informant said the first two pages of the treaty detailed Hitler’s precise aims in Russia, followed by sections detailing how Britain could keep its independence, Empire and armed services, and how the Nazis would withdraw from western Europe. The treaty proposed a state of wohlwollende Neutralität “well wishing neutrality”, between Britain and Germany, for the latter’s offensive against the USSR. The informant even said the date of the Hitler’s coming attack on the east was disclosed.

Mr Padfield, who makes the claims in a new book, Hess, Hitler and Churchill, said: “This was not a renegade plot. Hitler had sent Hess and he brought over a fully developed peace treaty for Germany to evacuate all the occupied countries in the West.” CONTINUED

EXCERPT "Comprehensive research has shown not only that Washington knew in advance of the attack on Pearl Harbor, but that it deliberately withheld its foreknowledge from our commanders in Hawaii in the hope that the "surprise" attack would catapult the U.S. into World War II." CONTINUED

I think it depends on how 'against their own country' is defined.

I, too, find it curious how Iran can be an "aggressor" when the US has come half-way across the world to torment them and abrogate joint agreements.

The closest that Iran has come to US soil is when they offered to help with one of America's oil spills (1)

The US has consistently told Israel to stand down during our struggles in that region.

All see USA as enemy. Be it pro regime and anti regime factions. USA has no support inside Iran. By threatening to destroy iranian cultural sites, Trump unites Iranians even further.

    He is an idiot.

After watching ISIS and the history they destroyed I would have thought that sort of thing was SOP in that region Do you remember how mosques were used as ammo supply points when the US was removing the militias from Iraq? Maybe these cultural sites are situationally sacred?

When did we invade Iran? I’ve followed politics and international events closely since the early 1970’s. I don’t remember us invading Iran.

Lebanese Hezbollah says Soleimani's killing marks the beginning of new phase in Middle East

Supporters of the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah have gathered for a memorial rally in Beirut.

The message coming from the angry crowd is clear: They expect a war.

There's a sense of focused energy at this gathering. Lebanese Hezbollah has received support from Iran and the men here consider Qasem Soleimani to be one of their key leaders. Some of the women are dressed in black, carrying Soleimani's portraits.

They expect revenge and conflicts to be ahead. Many in the crowd are wearing yellow headbands with the words "Death to Americans" written on them.

    ... https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/us-iran-soleimani-tensions-live-intl-01-05-20/index.html

    A very symbolic image.

Iran has been at war with the U.S. since 1979. They started the war.

Anything we do to them is justified.

Ah, the bad ass right is here to save the day. Those weak, indecisive liberals could never pull this off, it takes a strong conservative manly man. Oh wait, then does that mean that liberals, being weak and indecisive and all, could never be the authoritarians that many conservatives like to accuse them of being. How could they ever lord over the strong central conservative leaders who the right minded people support with such fervor.

Again, we don’t want war with Iran. To Americans, Iran is a dirty, insignificant country 9,000 miles away. But they’ve chosen to be at war with us for 40 years. We could wipe them out in 15 minutes. Instead, we respond appropriately and proportionately when we’re attacked.

I find it sickening how CNN and some outlets are almost like mourning this terrorist thug who even the Obama administration dubbed a terrorist and a person responsible for 500 or so American deaths. This guy, for decades, took part in killing Americans and orchestrating hostile acts against U.S. liberal media is just showing what a beloved man he was and how thousands are mourning a 'great' leader. Disgusting... he was a THUG terrorist piece of crap... and responsible for his own death.
