Can the US taxpayer afford a Trump Presidency?

The very obvious other option is for to him to forswear self-dealing. For him to say that, while he is in office, the federal government is prohibited from doing business with any Trump businesses. Of course he could stay at his own properties, just not charge for using them.

That would be the ethical thing to do. That would be what any other federal employee would have to do. But you give him a pass on his self-dealing.

the prices are not that expensive by comparison. we have local resorts that start at 400 a night in season for the crappy rooms. $250+ right down the road from me and the rooms are nice but nothing spectacular.

Read the bold and underlined part. He is directing taxpayer money into his own pocket. He has a financial interest. Any other federal employee would be in prison. But you think his conduct is ok.
