The Obama Administration declared a public health emergency very early in the H1N1 outbreak. As that outbreak started in Mexico & was spreading in the US before anyone knew it was a serious epidemic there were a handful of known cases in the US at this time. The Administration moved with appropriate speed.

The Trump Administration declared a public health emergency on January 31 - also very early in he COVID-19 outbreak. As people can transmit the virus before they have obvious symptoms there were already a handful of known cases in the US. The Administration moved with appropriate speed.

Whatever other mistakes either Administration made, both declared an emergency with appropriate speed. That makes most of the posts on this thread examples of the worst sort of partisanship. Just stop doing it. Everyone here can choose to be pathetic, childish, gutter crawling partisan hacks or they can choose to be intelligent adults who take responsibility for their own actions. Anyone here who wants to know what is wrong with America need only look in the mirror.

Trump didn't take it seriously, had several egregious missteps during the early days, and actually held several large rallies that helped SPREAD the Virus.

The national emergency was declared when a viable vaccine was created allowing for health services to rapidly deploy the vaccine. He did what was needed when it was needed. He began with his speech that April by telling people they should not panic but be vigilant and to protect themselves by not shaking hands, washing hands frequently, staying home when sick and coughing/sneezing into your sleeve rather than your hand. He then followed through with support for scientists and doctors. No one can stop a virus only mitigate it's effect and being single minded from day one all was done that could be done.

No one is obviously going to respond to you bigfella. They're too engrossed in their hatred. There's a reason I haven't been responding much in these types of threads. They're all about pounding their chests and claiming how one is better than the other.

 

I can't call out every example, but I am determined to call out at least some. I remember the way Ebola was politicised by a vile group of people looking for a political advantage. Some of the same people are at it again, while another set has jumped in on this virus. They are all disgusting.

It is possible to have an informed, intelligent discussion about this virus. Unfortunately some people just have a natural affinity for the sewer.

Do you propose that we let slide the preposterous denials? Sure, eventually, like Trump seems to have to a point, they'll come around but in the meantime they're part of the problem. So many are making huge sacrifices like the billions the NCAA will lose that it's disturbing that so many would refuse vigilance in their own lives as a contribution. An earlier post had a sequence of posts showing Trump all over the place in denial and self congratulation and his followers ate it up and are still in denial. This isn't global warming where if you kick the can down the road you may not live to see the results. In this case the road is a short one and we need to put the can in recycling. Now.
