Democrats Create Select Committee to Investigate Trump’s Coronavirus Response

Fascinating how all those people screaming about Democrats 'politicizing' this don't want to talk about the GOP/right wing response to Ebola.

Did the GOP Congress have an enquiry of any sort into Ebola? Seems a simple enough question to answer, but no one wants to.

Obama sat around with his thumb up his backside while 1000 Americans died. Trump closed travel and shipments from China long before 1000 Americans died. Truth is Obama/Biden rolled the dice with American lives rather than close the Mexican border to all but essential traffic and never restricted air travel to Mexico, the country of origin for H1N1 Swine Flu.

 

They'll pay a heavy price in November.

Ebola was a far more deadly virus, Obama went and got it and brought it here. Didn’t have to happen

 

I didn't ask if there was a Select Committee, I asked this:

You said they did not, which is clearly untrue.

So, all you are left with is somehow trying to claim that a Congressional enquiry into a virus that had two cases transmitted in the US & two deaths is fine, but a Select Committee investigating a virus that has thus far infected over a quarter million Americans and killed 7300 is 'political' or in some other way unjustified.

If it was fine for the GOP to investigate the response to Ebola it is fine for the Dems to investigate the response to COVID-19. Only the most rabid political partisan could try to argue otherwise.

 

Ebola killed a fraction of the people COVID-19 has killed, infected a tiny fraction of the people COVID-19 has infected and only spread to a handful of nations. It spread to a grand total of TWO people in the US, yet Republicans acted like it had infected hundreds of thousands of Americans and killed thousands.

Obama's response to Ebola was a success, yet Congress still investigated.

 

Far more deadly, yet covid is killing more because of executive incompetence and lies

 

Technically you are entirely correct. But there is this little thing called probable cause. There was tons of probable cause for congress to investigate a problematic Benghazi with prima facie evidence of wrong doing by the administration. There is zero probable cause to investigate Trump's response to the CIVID-19 problem. In fact there is more probable cause for Pelosi to investigate her own response to it.

There was a committee hearing because there had been no federal response and the head of the CDC testified and informed Congress what were their intentions forward. No special select committed, no 911 type commission, no Pearl Harbor type hearing.

 

And Obama didn't setting the precedent.

 

Sorry Rod, there is no 'little thing called 'probable cause' for congressional investigations because they don't march into homes and offices to search you or your documents, they do not seize anything and they do not arrest you or charge you with anything but contempt of Congress. The courts simply do not have the authority to superimpose any standard or burden of proof on Congressional activity including its investigatory function. Congress is not constrained in how it investigates because it is not doing it to police conduct or enforce laws. It is investigating pursuant to its own vested responsibility to either legislate, impeach or as part of its job to confirm executive or judicial nominees. Here, for example, while they may refer evidence that they find to a prosecutor, just as you or I or anyone might, they cannot themselves criminally prosecute. But they can tighten laws, close loopholes, and require the executive to be more forthcoming with congress concerning who learns what about these pandemic threats, who reports to whom and when. In tother words, they are investigating to 'fix' the system . In the case of extreme malfeasance they can impeach, but they cannot arrest charge and sentence anyone to prison.

No they don't need to meet any prima facie standard. They simply have to have sufficient support among their brethren on the committee and on the floor that they won't be stopped.

Just put down your little law dictionary with all that jargon . Its useless with the legislative branch.
