It wasn't just him. The whole industry was like that. Probably still is. To those who get into it, it is quite a thrilling industry to be in. Companies often will have separate teams of engineers working on the same problem. Those on the team with the best solutions get bonuses and opportunities to work on the cool projects. As the industry tends to run from project to project, engineers, scientists, and technicians often jump from project to project and company to company. It is a process that filters out the talent, as reputations are built upon successful projects.

The other end of what you might consider ruthless pitting one against another, are successful product launches. Beating out your rivals and detracters with a top notch design that is first to market is a high not unlike the high of winning a gold medal, or the Super Bowl. To see other people using your devices is kind of cool. Or to see many copies marching down the assembly line, like soldiers marching off to war.

Gates' crime, if you want to call it that, is that he really didn't create anything. Most of what he did was either buy products/companies, or just steal the designs of others.

He bought DOS and modified it to fit the IBM PC. He bought out and then hired the guy who created Word. Windows infringed on the Mac OS's patents and copyrights.. Windows explorer was created to run Netscape out of business.

Bill Gates is an example of why I think that very wealthy people should be taxed at a higher rate. The majority of their wealth comes by taking a share of the fruits of other people's labor.

Find four more, soak in milk for 30 min and then dredge in seasoned flour and cornmeal and deep fry quickly and pat dry with a paper towel. Lay them on a Hoagie roll slathered with "Come again sauce" topped with lettuce or cabbage and sliced sweet or bread and butter pickles and enjoy!

Gates manages to surface on Fox with Sweetheart weenie boy
Chris Wallace.I noticed how his eyes were blinking in unison and
continually.First sign of someone prone to Lying.Or preparing to Lie.
I got as far as Gates explaining how he thought Dr.FAuci was doing a
    " VERY Good Job "
This guy is dangerous.Probably has a half dozen armed Redoubts
And Bunkers at his ready. For his Globalist pals.

Well we are using his software, some one else built the computer. Because I appreciate his inadvertent democratization of the internet dies not mean I am also required to also like his other ideas especially when they run counter to common sense and human freedom.

Gates has a lot of people who are offended by some of the policies Microsoft has used, and I'm one of them. I do think that the difference in perspectives people have when they hold drastically different positions in life make it hard to use one judgment for all situations, but we should look at what people do overall to keep things in balance. Gates has created a vast charitable foundation with excellent and humanitarian goals, and is indeed contributing to the world with them.

One example is that one of the research projects he has funded has discovered a way to make the process of photosynthesis in crops such as wheat and rice dramatically more effective. The result is that crops with the new seed produce 40% more grain from the same acreage without added fertilizers or others changes. Imagine how far that can do toward feeding the world, and what a massive gift that is. Nobody is all good or all bad in the public eye, because we all look at what we want to and tend to tilt the scales- ignore what doesn't fit what we want to think, exaggerate what does. Truth is in between.

We do- but in recent years, the press has made that freedom to throw journalistic integrity out the window. I don't know how to fix that, but I do think that the press has an obligation to separate news and opinion- and that line seems to have disappeared entirely these days. The days of Walter Cronkite, Barbara Walters and that kind of reporting are gone- replaced with 5 people all talking over each other an the audience being fed propaganda.

We need real news people again, who simply report truth in balance, and let the people decide how to feel about it.

Like how Monsanto is viewed as if a Godsend to Farmers.?
Great and bold lie.Monsanto is a complete and utter control freak.
    Like Gates.
Gates is fully on board with the now outted and Lying WHO.
World Health Organization.Gates also has a huge soft spot for
the United Nations. He uses the UN as a platform for his pleas
for Vaccinations. That in clinical trials have killed many.
Gates runs around pleading for our Kids to get vaccinated.
Yet has no problem with making sure his offspring is not
vaccinated.Of those of his Globalist pals.Gates vaccines
are basically sterilization vaccines.Gates is a Population
    control freak.

Cronkite and Walters were both Liberals. Not leftists but Liberals.
They had an agenda but it was soft not hard.Like an X Rated movie
    vs. XXX Porn Feature.
Walters was very accommodating to those actors she interviewed
    that were known liberals.And rather tough on those actors {or actress }
    who were less than Liberal.

If a Country {Political Party}seems perfectly comfortable with 62 million babies
being aborted ... then what's next.
Eugenics proponents like Bill Gates preaching the merits of inoculation
of drugs that sterilize { vaccines }.

Yes, they are all part of a global conspiracy against you and yours. They plot to control your family, plan to create and introduce viruses they can put in the water that only affect those below certain income levels, which will take over your brain and make you a sort of drone for them. It's a vast evil plot that makes the James Bond class criminals look like children.

How will you protect yourself? Tinfoil hats or suits? Magic MoJo's or amulets from the ancient Egyptians?

As soon as you find out what will work, please let us all know. We don't want our brains to be taken over either.

How many Roundup cases have been filed.?
Monsanto does not advocate GMO seed they Demand Their
GMO seed be planted.Farmers who defy Monsanto's orders
watch as their neighboring Farms who had no choice but to use
Monsanto GMO seed eventually notice the effects of cross-pollination.

Vaccines don't sterilize or most baby boomers wouldn't have had kids. If they do come up with a vaccine that prevents pregnancy I'm more than willing for leftists to use as much if it as they want...

Two caveats however 1. It has to be reversible and 2. Informed consent must be given.

In the early days of the personal computer, it was a very competitive world. For the first decade or so, before it hit the big time, there was no clear leader. Every company used their own architecture and CPU selection. Nothing was compatible. There was Commodore, Atari, Sinclair, Tandy, Apple, Altair, and others. It wasn't just personal computers as the same technology was also being implemented into home appliances, medical devices, industrial controls, games, musical instruments and recording, home entertainment, robotics.... It was like there was a revolution in the air. A lot of people were aware that they were changing the world. In Aeronautics too. The engineers and technicians behind the space program were aware of their role in history. Produced a lot of pride in what they did.

Even though computer based technology is often talked about in terms of the personalities of people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and that guy from Facebook, and their wealth, the industry was built by the work of thousands of engineers and technicians, in both hardware and software, most of who have been just average Joes earning average engineer and technician salaries.
