One still has to identify oneself when one shows up to vote. There is no place that I know of in this country where one can vote or register to vote without ID. That is why it is not an issue. If anyone knows of a place like that please let me know.
How the hell would it do that? How hard is it to get an ID? Why do democrats think their people are so incompetent and incapable that they can't figure out how to get an ID? I promise you it is very very easy to do. Even if you are 95 years old in a wheelchair.
So it's never been a real issue but somehow it's all of a sudden going to be an issue? Why? Why all of a sudden do you believe voter fraud is going to be such a huge problem when it's never been in the past?
because politics is so polarized right now, and both sides are so certain that they are right that they will do anything to win, believing the ends justify the means. You can’t sit their and tell me honestly that people aren’t getting desperate to win politically. Look at the craziness going on in politics on both sides of the aisle. People are desperate for power and they are desperate to bring in their vision for America. Far more so than any time I remember in history. We have to ensure beyond a shadow of a doubt that our political process is legitimate, and nothing shady is happening.
In theory I have no issues. In practivce unfortunatley, I have many issues. ID's should be VERY easy to acquire for the proper individual, and it must be 100% entirely free. Unfortunately the system is generally being used to make it harder for people to obtain those ID's, and costs time and money to obtain. And its being done in a targeted way to specifically disenfranchise voters who tend to vote blue. Its being used as a system of suppression, as opposed to an actual voter id system.
So as a result you think people are going to run around to different voting stations to pretend to be someone else? And how are they going to know the names and addresses of people? Furthermore, how will they know whether or not the people they are going to pretend to be haven't already voted? I'm pretty confident most people don't want to take that risk, hence why voter fraud really isn't much of an issue already.
No you don’t have to show id when you show up to vote in most places. That’s the entire point. All you have to do is give them a name and address and as far as they’re concerned you’re that person and can vote.
The bottom line remains, those against voter ID are planning voter fraud, or hopes someone else is. BTW most people drive to a voting location, so they must have a drivers license with them. SHOW THE DAMN THING!!!
I see no need for voter ID and yet I am not planning voter fraud nor am I hoping someone else is. So you're already wrong.
We already have social security numbers, real ID numbers, passports, birth certificates, driver's licenses, so why another one labeled 'voter ID'? Paper ballots can be hacked as well. Computer voting can be verified by the voter. Mail-in voting can be verified by the voter...
Right. Thank you for agreeing that you were mistaken when you claimed it was the voter. I'm not getting why you are confused about who pays for the infrastructure of democracy. Who pays for the ballots to be printed (or the electronic voting machines)? Who pays for the polling places? Who pays for the returning officers? So why are you claiming someone else should -- or does -- pay for the voter ID system? You seem to be a little bit unclear about what democracy involves, and why people have a right to vote. Is that the problem?
It's not going to be a random person. It's going to be someone planning to alter the result of an election. There are vast databases of such information, and few of them are very secure. How is the poll official to determine that the person first presenting themselves as Jim Smith of 1234 Main Street is the real Jim Smith, and not the guy who comes in later when Smith's name has already been crossed off?
You seem to be thoroughly confused. Nothing is for free. Someone pays for it. I never said people don't have a right to vote so not sure why you're going on about that.
Considering voter fraud is infinitesimal it seems you are working yourself up over nothing. There aren't vast amounts of people going around pretending to be someone else to "alter the results of elections". And quite honestly there are relatively few states (for the sake of argument) where that could even possibly happen. It doesn't happen, but you get the idea.
To meaningfully protect the right to vote, the state must have a means to positively verify the identity of a person casting a ballot. The next least restrictive means to this end is the requirement for a state issued ID card.
From a list of names and addresses. Are you perhaps unaware that there are lists of things? They just went early, and took a chance.
Nope. So what? Does the voter pay for the ballot or machine they use to vote? Why, then, would they pay for a voter ID card? You said the voter would have to pay for a voter ID card. That was false. Not sure why you aren't clear on that.
