Many have been wondering why New York experienced such galling numbers of COVID deaths when compared to the rest of the country. We now know it was due to Governor Cuomo's policy of forcing nursing homes to accept COVID-infected patients into their facilities, a policy which Cuomo was eventually forced to reverse. This is the perfect example of Democratic governance at its finest. Killing the very people you claim to be protecting.
The answer is that New York City is there. That explains a fairly small sample of the deaths. Please, you can do better than that.
The death rates are measured per 100,000 people. That controls for differences in population. And New York has the highest death rate per 100,000 people by far. According to Cuomo's own fake numbers, at least 25% of COVID deaths in New York happened inside nursing homes. That's about 5,600 deaths. Cuomo is no doubt responsible for thousands of them. It's true. The very policies that were designed to protect people from COVID ended up killing them. That is Democratic governance in a nutshell.
And while Cuomo was killing people in nursing homes, the normal people he locked down ended up getting infected with COVID anyway. According to a recent study, two-thirds of recent COVID hospitalizations in New York were for people that obeyed the stay-at-home orders [1]. So it doesn't even matter if you stay at home, you're probably going to get infected anyway. [1] - https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...tly-hospitalized-ny-had-been-staying-n1201421
The Cuomos aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer for sure but NYC has 8 million people packed into 302 sq miles, that's a density something like Delhi India. NYC is the crossroads of the world and host to pathogens from everywhere, it's surprising they don't have a new epidemic every year. India's population mostly shares all the same immunity and in spite of squalid conditions the masses thrive. Everyone got caught with their pants down on this one but all the real blame goes to China. Covid 19 exposed Cuomo and Di Blasio's incompetence.
The pro-lockdown crowd is staying well clear of this thread. They don't want to admit that the political face of America's lock down culture is actually the biggest grandma killer in the country.
That's right... stay FAR away from this thread, liberal Democrats. Just pretend like Cuomo isn't responsible for killing thousands of people. Just pretend like New York's wildly disproportionate death rate wasn't caused by your golden boy.
The real number is at least 50%. But even if we take the number most favorable to Cuomo, he still ends up killing thousands of people.
He's shown no remorse over slaughtering grandparents by the thousands. Why oh why is NY Governor Andrew "Grandma Killer" Cuomo being praised for his coronavirus response? Governor Andrew Cuomo does not deserve kudos for his COVID-19 policies. He put the elderly at great risk, and killing a lot of them.
The irony being that Cuomo is trying to blame his decision as governor on Trump. One also notices that the leftist loyal MSM is obediently trying like hell to make that become a new reality in the mind of the average citizen. Cuomo's decision but somehow Trump's fault.
COVID is 3 times deadlier if in a State with a Blue Gov. SHOCKING: More New Yorkers Died from Governor Cuomo’s Coronavirus Nursing Home Policy than Died on 9/11
TRAGIC STORY OF FOX NEWS’ JANICE DEAN’S IN-LAWS PUTS A HUMAN FACE ON CUOMO’S DISASTROUS DECISION: Both Of Her Husbands Parents Died Of Covid-19 In Nursing Homes. Until They Died at the Hands of Cuomo's Policy. A nursing home administrator in New York strenuously protested Cuomo’s new order that obligated nursing homes to accept infectious coronavirus patients into their care. Tragically, Gov Cuomo later dismissed any objections as financially motivated in his press conferences. At the time, the objection was raised, she was unable to get any New York officials to listen — and unable to contact any parties directly. The consequences following that fateful order were every bit as devastating as they were predictable. This particular action contributed to over 5,700 known deaths in New York nursing homes at this time. Including both of Janice Dean’s in-laws. Janice Dean, Senior Meteorologist at Fox News, shared her story on Twitter — one that puts a personal face on the horrors unfolding in a much-neglected story. She said: Dear friends, As most of you know, both of my husband’s parents died of covid in different nursing/assisted living residences here in New York. There aren’t a lot of news outlets covering this tragedy which I believe should be one of the biggest stories of the covid19 pandemic of 2020. So, please forgive me for my raw horror, grief and fury. If there’s anything I can say having lived through this, is that I will do my best to be a voice for all those who don’t have one. There needs to be a real investigation into how bad decisions and poor preparation let a virus ravage our most vulnerable. They had no way to defend themselves, and it will haunt my family forever.
Unlike New York and a few other states, Florida issued no order compelling nursing homes to accept infectious patients. The doomsday scenario they said would certainly befall Florida never materialized… certainly not on the scale the Chicken Little crowd had predicted. The Nursing Home fatality statistic has become so humiliating for Cuomo that his administration quietly changed the reporting rules for Nursing Home fatalities so that it wouldn’t reflect so poorly on him. Cuomo’s Officials Caught Cooking The Books On Nursing Home Deaths. James Woods lambasted Cuomo over the nursing home scandal, spreading the hashtag #KillerCuomo. “#KillerCuomo ruthlessly seeded vulnerable nursing homes with virus-ridden COVID19 carriers,” he wrote. “He undoubtedly would have catapulted plague-ridden corpses over castle walls during the Black Death and done so without moral compunction.” The Post, meanwhile, suggests: “All the more reason why federal officials with nothing to fear must step in and find the facts. A designated US attorney … could use a grand jury to demand answers about why so many elderly people were put in harm’s way despite the warnings and simple common sense.” It’s curious, isn’t it, that media types so hellbent on attributing the responsibility of each and every death to the President so easily gloss over specific policy choices that endangered — or even ended — so very many innocent lives. According to NY Times data on nursing homes, the states where "new cases are increasing" have the highest share of nursing home deaths from COVID-19 (52% vs 35%). Yet we continue to focus on beach activity and blanket lockdowns as opposed to protecting those in nursing homes. James Todaro, MD @JamesTodaroMD
