We seem to be stuck at a rate of of about 800 deaths a day or 300,000 a year.
The question is will we be able to really reopen at this rate?

Question to ask is why the hell aren't we making a billion P100 grade masks a day? If we had that sort of manufacturing power we wouldn't need to lockdown because we could provide masks to every person and then mandate their use basically everywhere. We could beat the virus that way.

    masks do not help
US have more cases with mask then without masks.
masks are only work for couple of hours, after that is prime source of infection.
some people wear them for months

I do agree, masks should be one time use... we need to have a cheap supply of them

We will have to open at some point. People cannot just sit at home while bills pile up. However, I believe it will be very, very different than how it was pre-COVID19.

I really hope that's untrue. I know so many people on the brink due to bills piling up and isolation. I was socially distancing prior to the pandemic so it doesn't bother me all that much, but I know people that are having a hard time with it.

Millions of people are having a hard time with it. It is authoritarian for government to force people to close businesses. No virus justifies authoritarianism.

Democrats do not want the USA to reopen for obvious reasons.

They all know that DJT is an economic genius and if they can suppress the US economy from rebounding from the C-19 shutdowns just a little bit longer they might have a chance of taking the Whitehouse.

You know that, I know that, and everybody in this forum knows that whether they choose to admit it or not.

So we have 5 or six states that are putting restrictions back on due to rising cases, a few that haven't completely reopened and the rates are rising. Do we need to close again to get it down to a level like Europe where we have enough tracers to stomp on the embers?

Relax. If Joe Biden wins the presidency, then the political Left will instantly forget all about the horrors and dangers of Covid-19. On the other hand, WHEN Trump wins his re-election the political Left will demand a Covid-19 national economic lockdown for the next four years. So it's utterly situational.

That depends. What's the criteria for "reopening?"

I see a lot of verbiage here that is inane, inept and carries a complete disregard for reality..

    But that deserves a prize.

I think that people need to change their thinking somewhat. This might be the new normal. I hope not, but for the foreseeable future we need to alter our behaviors. Wearing masks should be something that people understand and do - not make it a political issue. Other countries have managed to beat back the virus and they've been able to resume their lives - so why can't that happen in the US? Are we that stubborn? Do we honestly believe that mandating masks is a violation of our rights? Is that something worth fighting about?

The criteria is that the people are unwilling to go backwards and live as if they were dead.

I think it's where people will let it stay open. But I don't know where that is. It doesn't seem to be where we are, since things are being shut down as we type.

So there is no criteria, just stay shut down?

Disregards for reality? When the rioters were busy roasting entire parts of cities the political Left totally forgot about the necessity for social distancing and Covid-19. But the instant they halted and the instant Trump returned to the campaign trail the political Left rediscovered Covid-19. Apparently the political Left thought that nobody would notice.

So, HOW do we fix this as a nation? It is surreal.

There was a discussion about that.

Some thought it was hypocritical. Others thought it was simply a question of priorities. Doctors sometimes have priotities that conflict. In this case, the long term potential for reform outweighed the short term risk.

In addition, the big spike we were worried about didn't happen. Being outside dramatically reduces transmission. So we learned something from it, as well.

The OP didn't describe a rate at which reopening would be acceptable.

Situational, depending upon the political advantage versus disadvantage perceived by the Dem Party leadership; or in otherwords pure leftist cynical politics. Yep . . . people noticed.

Oh it happened, they just want to attribute it to different reasons. "They were...going to bars that's it!". ROFL, LMFAO. Biggest problem is, no one believes them when they say crap like that.
