    Low IQ's? Well, what do you expect from a place filled with poverty, lack of nutrition, and disease? And illiteracy?

    And meanwhile, there's a dirty little secret that the USA conducted forced sterilization of low IQ individuals back in the 1930s before Nazi Germany made eugenics look unseemly.

    IQ may or may not correlate with the (extremely narrow) spectrum of academic achievement - which actually IS highly subjective as a measure of anything meaningful.

    There are incredibly intelligent people who flunk out of high school all the time, and near idiots who go to Yale.

    It takes a highly intelligent person who gets all the ladies and some other stupid standards of complicated geo political ego stroking , insert word mods don’t like measuring contests to realize the thread is a bad faith argument in of itself. My response is as intelligent as the argument made by the op. Simple as that.

    What is something meaningful?

    IQ does correlate to academic success, fyi.

    And academic success generally leads to a good paying job and a comfortable life. If it were not meaningful there wouldn't be all this kvetching about poor schools.

    Competence in one's environment. (Drop Obama or Bush II in the middle of nowhere & they'll be in BIG trouble.)

    IQ can correlate, sure - but I know tons of mad smart people who were terrible students.

    IQ is a BS measure.
    Quality of pre-college education plays huge role in the amount of prerequisite skills needed to pass the test successfully.
    Same can be said about education. I, myself, have a masters degree, but every time I deal with someone from Harvard I get an impression that I am dealing with an imbecile. All they seem to understand well is the value of connections and who you know. Nothing else!

    Not really.
    I have good education, but crappy memory. I rode through the school using my problem solving abilities. Business, engineering, science and other technical degrees don’t require much memorization, as you learn a concept and then apply it in a given problem.
    People who go for history, languages, law, and other humanities degrees do need good memory, but their problem solving skills tend to suck.

    I went to trade school for welding, even got a Pell Grant. In this Covid days, I fear trades will suffer. Talk about "hand's on learning"!
