Why isn't it better? We've had what, 12 years of Obamacare to get it right? The problem with it is that it was a steaming pile to start with. The whole design was to get providers paid and it's such a misdirection. It's the modern Gordian knot and the mess Obama gave us doesn't come close to cutting through it.
To the extent it extends medical coverage to more of the population, including people who couldn't afford coverage before it meets one of the metrics for 'better.' And it hasn't been 12 years! Not even close. The Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010. It then took a couple of years to get up & running. Even if it had been allowed to roll out as planned (which it wasn't) the final parts of the scheme weren't supposed to be in place until 2014! And of course your overlooking the fact Obama left office in 2016. Since day one Republicans have been fighting at the State and National level to get it repealed - not withstanding the fact they don't have cohesive national plan for a replacement themselves. You think its a 'Gordian knot', fine. Come up with a better idea and as per my previous post 'better' means one that 'delivers similar coverage levels at lower cost (or greater coverage at the same cost)'. Good luck.
President-elect Joe Biden said on Monday many of America's security agencies had been "hollowed out" under President Donald Trump and the lack of information being provided to his transition team by the outgoing administration was an "irresponsibility." "We've encountered roadblocks from the political leadership at the Department of Defense and the Office of Management and Budget," Biden said after a meeting with his foreign policy team. "Right now we just aren't getting all of the information that we need from the outgoing administration in key national security areas. It's nothing short, in my view, of irresponsibility," he added. After Biden beat Trump in the Nov. 3 election, the Democrat’s team only began meeting with administration officials in late November to coordinate the handover. Trump, a Republican, has refused to concede defeat and his administration only authorized cooperation with Biden on Nov. 23. Biden takes office on Jan. 20. This probably means that Biden and his team will be cleaning up the messes that Trump made in the last four years.
This lack of cooperation is virtually Anti american. This nation has had (until now) a positive reputation for an effective , efficient democratic transition of power....... Trump's juvenile behavior has ruined that. Sadly, as stated before......He will make Bidens life as POTUS as challenging as possible. Sore loser is an understatement. It has the favor of a Greek tragedy.
If I could design a better plan that would sell I wouldn't be living on SS but then I don't have that expertise. What I do have is a need that caused me to look at various plans and see how worthless the 'affordable' ones actually are. I had great insurance through my employer and I still do pretty well but I pay for it too. You know what is great government coverage? Medicaid!
Why can't he just act like the Democrats did after Bush/Gore and Trump/Clinton? Now that was yer Deemockracy at it's finest.
Yep and Medicare and Medicaid are eating the US Budget alive albeit excess cost factors have reduced somewhat recently
Climate change raises stakes at hundreds of toxic sites as Biden inherits neglected EPA https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...climate-threats-n1252276?cid=eml_nbn_20201228 The neglect by Trump has been totally irresponsible. Maybe it is just not sexy enough.
Biden’s climate plan will not address gender and racial inequality. Women and minorities have suffered disproportionately from the pandemic recession and must be part of any comprehensive recovery program. The Biden administration’s quest to green the American economy promises to create millions of good jobs “filled by diverse, local and well-trained workers, including women and people of color.” The Biden administration is urged to adopt a broad “green-plus” recovery that prioritizes inherently low-carbon jobs in the care, education and service sectors, and valuable unpaid labor overlooked in conventional measures of economic well being. To do less is violence against the most exploited. And Never Forget that Green infrastructure stimulus spending alone won’t address economic inequalities! Biden must resist the traditional climate infrastructure investments that are aimed at overwhelmingly male-dominated industries, with women comprising only 3.5 percent of the construction and extraction workforce and 3.9 percent in installation, maintenance and repair. And don't even get me started on the “green” sectors like the solar industry, where dependence on networks leads to low diversity. If Biden foolishly invests in a white male-dominated green infrastructure boom he will only exacerbate the “she-cession” and racial economic concerns. We call on Biden’s proposed apprenticeship program to focus on improving diversity and inclusion in male-dominated sectors to reduce extreme biases in hiring across the economy. Just adding more women to male-dominated industries does not increase their economic status. The traditionally female- and minority-held jobs also have to have substantial pay increases. Enter “green-plus” way forward on climate and equality
It could be fixed if there was the will, but the attitude has been to tear it down instead. Heck, Trump made a campaign promise to destroy it, and when he failed, he said he wanted it to fail over the years. Even if Dems win the 2 GA Senate seats, which I doubt, the GOP will still do everything in their power to sabotage ACA.
Propaganda Alert! Biden has one foot in the political center and this sort of rightwing talk is all but handing it to him.
Biden is going to discuss COVID-19 and Harris is getting the vaccine to put steps in the right direction. I don't think Biden will tell us that the COVID-19 is a fantasy that will go away like Trump did. It was a real good thing a majority voted Joe Biden over Donald Trump. Don Lemon of CNN is saying something about Trump: Don Lemon Says Donald Trump and His Allies Are 'Dreaming of a Coup' (msn.com)
Joe is coming at you from the political middle and you're coming back with Trumper extremism (see above). In case you haven't noticed, the political middle voted for Biden. Most of this forum's Trumpers talk personalities, not issues. Why? Because they know zip about what's going on.
So far the only thing they have done has strengthened it. They would need the control of the WH and both Houses of Congress to do it and it would still be political suicide so I suspect it's here to stay. The fights today are over funding for abortion and birth control but I think the bc part is all show. Nobody in power wants to limit birth control.
Oh give me a break, personalities? As if that hasn't been the topic for 4 years. There is no political middle and if there was Joe isn't it.
Anyone who repeats things "Illegitimate Lame Duck Joe" is simply parroting someone else's words and you know who that someone else is.
You tried the "Joe has Alzheimer's" BS and that didn't work. Now, you're babbling away about Neo-Marxism. Do you know anything about tax policy or how the economy works? How about financing and fixing public education? It doesn't seem so. Rightwing propaganda. In all my years of teaching, I never heard a teacher talk like that. Never. Don't you have anything better to do than smear teachers? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Washington_Free_Beacon
How wonderful, so am I, but my canine is a different color. No matter, tints never mattered to me anyhow. In any other country, Biden would be a moderate conservative, and not even moderate in some places. America used to be the world's subversive and I think it is time we gained that noble title again. We are revolutionaries, not traditionalists and I think Biden realizes this is our essential character.
