Never got bent out of shape. I responded to your quote about blaming China to get their act together. From you OP, you inferred that China, with one airline accident, does not have safe skies. And I didn't even include the Covid snap that you included.

    Please reread your post

It was coming from Yunnan, which is even more beautiful.

I view that differently than you do apparently.

    Starting here...
I never mentioned any other country in my post so how you jumped to my OP implying that the US doesn't have plane crashes all happened inside your brain. It's not in my OP.
Again, all your side. I didn't mention any details other than what I put in the OP and the story was still (and still is) developing at that point.
Once again, all your side. The report is still developing so jumping ahead to waiting for the black box does feel a bit like pouncing too quickly.
    1. I didn't BLAME China.

    2. The part I quoted clearly stated they were sending a safety team out to investigate.
Nope. You did all that in your own head.
China would not allow investigators into the Wuhan Lab while former POTUS Trump was singing their praises in 2020.

You are free to call that a snap if you want to but I think most readers will agree that there are reasons to be concerned about China's willingness to accept responsibility and provide information in a timely manner.
I don't have any short-term memory problems. I don't need to reread it.

Maybe you can try reading it again and recognize that all the *extra* is yours. Please don't try to dump any of that on me.

I have always wanted to see southern China... especially toward the southwest, where the mysterious Minya Konka rises 7,556 m (24,790 ft) from the dense jungles far below. A trip like that just wasn't possible, so, I settled for the Rocky Mountains of Colorado instead.

    MJ, here is your quote:
Both the bold part and the underline part shows an inference into the blame game. Why else would you say, "China needs to get their safety protocols in check." That is the inference you are making whether you acknowledge it or not.

Second, before we can draw conclusions about "China needs to get their safety protocols in check" argument, I would want the investigation to be concluded as to the cause. We start with the black boxes on said airplanes and go from there. That was the point. I am a very big believer in not blaming anyone until all the facts are in play, not the part that favors one political party or another.

Thrid, when it comes to Covid and China, I don't think this is the thread for Covid given the moderator's rules for this section of the forum. So, I am going to refrain from my thoughts about Covid, China, inspections, Trump, Democrats, etc. If you want to start another thread why China didn't allow inspectors in 2020, I would more than happy and read the OP and perhaps comment.

Up on the Tibetan plateau there are some spectacular vistas.

I have been there several times in Guangzhou, Nanning, and Guilin primarily. Been on the Yangtze River in Guilin with some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen, Elephant Trunk Park, Crown Cave near Guilin, and some other historical spots. I would recommend you go and visit there once Covid has run its course and we get back to normal relations again.

You have no idea how much I envy you! Indeed, China is blessed (and cursed) with astonishingly beautiful country which seems to be unlike that found in the rest of the world. The curse is that only about 12% of the country can be used to grow food crops, but aside from that, it does have a beauty that I would have loved to have enjoyed.

But, I fear that even after the virus is finally more-or-less finished, the political situation will only continue to get worse until, one way or the other, the whole "Taiwan" thing is decided... and that could take quite a long time. If the Chinese are nothing else, they are patient.

Alwayssa, I already stated that I wanted to post the news story quickly because it was breaking news.

I did not blame China for the plane crash.

I did not blame China for COVID "escaping" the Wuhan Lab.

I do not believe it takes a leap of faith to read about them getting hit hard with this latest variant (just yesterday or the day before) and wake up today to a plane falling 30,000 feet from the sky for inquiring minds to wonder what the hell is going on over there?

I honestly don't understand why you are reading all that in my post. It would have been nicer if you had just asked me instead of pouncing based on your assumptions and if somebody else posts here and sides with you, I'll rethink it. But, for now, I stand by my statements.

Buying opportunity, I'd wager. I doubt this crash was due to any fault on Boeing's part.

It probably wasn't but they have to ground the planes until the investigation sorts things out.

My father was an Army paratrooper. My ex-FIL is a retired military pilot that transitioned to commercial pilot and my ex worked for the airlines the whole time we were together and still does. Things were really, really bad after 9/11. It was brutal. We lost so much in retirements and pension funds, people were getting laid off constantly. Luckily, the ex's job was stable but the skeleton crew that was left behind had to take on so much work. Two people literally dropped dead of heart attacks.

It's not fair the plane manufacturer gets blamed when planes go down but it's part of the FAA investigation protocol and everybody has to make statements, check mechanics' and electrical sign-offs, retrieve the data from the black box, formal statements, etc.. Until they know for sure, underwriting won't sign off on releasing those planes. It's too big a liability.

I've been checking every few minutes but it doesn't look like they've confirmed any survivors or deaths yet.

Oh, yes, indeed... but, you notice the same thing up on the Tibetan Plateau that you do in much of the Rocky Mountains above 'timber-line' -- it's barren, cold, wind-blown, dusty, and quite arid. The mountains and high hills that are co-located with dense jungle areas tend to have many more kinds of flora and fauna.

You find these in that southern portion of China and what used to be called Burma. I'll never get to go now, but I'm not complaining -- Colorado is beautiful, and, you don't have to speak Mandarin!

The way that thing was apparently plunging, it looked like pilot suicide or something. I wouldn't expect anyone to come out of that alive.

I owe it all to my wife. So please, try not to envy her.

True, which is why China builds up, not out unlike the US. In Chinese culture, the average Chinese citizen will live within a relatively short distance, may less than 5 minutes away, from where they work. Many of the Banks that own skyscrappers would use incentives to for their employees to live in that building. Most, but not all, of their skyscrappers are a mix of both busienss, which is usually the bottom floors, and residential condos in the upper floors. NYC has that in some of their skyscrapers and I think in a few other cities as well, but it is more common in China.

The Chinese people are three things: extremely shrewd business persons, patient, and numerous. That is their greatest asset and why they have the comparative advantage over every other country when it comes to labor intensive industries.

I spent some time right on that border. Me and a friend of mine thought it would be "cool" to just step over the border and take a picture of ourselves in Myanmar. When we got within a few feet several soldiers melted in from the jungle and cocked their rifles. We changed our minds about the picture.

Confession: I didn't watch it. I lost an uncle in 9/11. My heart is already heavy for the loved ones of all those passengers and crew. I can't watch anymore plane crashes. That's why I added the warning to my OP.

The crew can't disable the black box so they will be able to piece things together once they can recover it. I hope you're wrong, Dur. I hope somebody didn't take down that plane just to commit suicide. God, I hope you're wrong.

It's nighttime there and the search has been slow due to rain. We should hear more details as day breaks over there.

And, not only that, but research conducted extensively since 1970 presents a growing body of evidence to support the theory that the branch of the human race with the highest IQ is not (NOT) the "White" race, but rather, the East-Asian race ("Oriental")!

Indeed, from the decline of the Roman Empire until the Renaissance, the Chinese Empire was, by far, the most advanced in all civilization.

@Alwayssa, I sent my post to a friend and he said that he agrees with you that my "tone" sounded like blame toward China.

I apologize for not being more careful with my wording and I will make a better effort to re-read before clicking "post reply".

Thank you for sharing your views on this matter and helping me learn to listen to constructive criticism more often.

    So, as promised, I concede.

And yet they crave to be like the West. I thought I'd just point that out :)
