American laws make it easy for anyone to get a gun that can kill dozens of innocent people.

    More and more powerful guns:

"Australia has some of the tightest gun control and border security laws in the world but there are still thousands of weapons the Australian Government can't trace.
In December, a joint operation involving the Australian Border Force (ABF) and New South Wales Police seized an arsenal near Newcastle, including a grenade launcher and a heavy machine gun.

Meanwhile, in western Queensland, a haul of 120 firearms including an anti-tank rifle was seized earlier this year.

Australia's border security is capturing a significant amount of illicit firearms and parts.

More than 2,000 were confiscated in their most recent survey period between 2017 and 2018, according to the Department of Home Affairs."

This happens much more often in the US than elsewhere.

    Now you get it.
The only thing that can effectively stop an armed violent criminal in the act is someone with a gun.
Only an armed public can keep the public peace.

Another good reason for making sure that far more Americans start carrying concealed handguns.
They need them -- right now.

What happened yesterday is a direct consequence of the proliferation and over-accessibility of guns, two things that have been part of the Republican political agenda forever.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "This" and "elsewhere". Some places have far worse gun violence (and violence in general) than the USA, and some places have less. Even within the US, there are places that have far worse gun violence and places that have less.

So, let me get this straight: some guy went to a store in Mexico, bought an assault rifle and started shooting people at a hotel?

Because if this was a drug gang or anything like that... you're talking unrelated B.S., and wasting our time.

Of course the fact that you provide no references is pretty clear indication that you KNOW you are comparing apples to oranges.

No, I don't hope. I have 2 young nieces and 1 young nephew in school, that I worry may be a victim of a mass killing.

You seem okay with it, however, based on your reply.

Why not be straight forward and just admit it. What are you afraid of?

If the killer had not had access to a gun, this massacre would never have happened.

And there were armed guards in the school when he entered.

He still had time to massacre 19 children.

No country in the West has a worse record than the US.

    Not even close.

So, if something is not 100 percent effective, we don't try anything at all?

I agree that we need much stricter enforcement of laws on the books, too.

But I am not expecting ANY law to be 100 percent effective. I would settle for a percent reduction in the frequency and severity of mass killing attack's.

    Why wouldn't you?

Anyways! when the Supreme Court decided to end the Mass Murder of unborn babies, Liberals went out of their minds, but if you want to see REAL! protests and anarchy in the Streets, watch what happens if Democrats ever got their way to ban Guns in the United States and the ability for law abiding citizens to defend themselves against ARMED! criminals and a Tyrannical Democratic Government run Amok.

No law can remove access to guns: Sweden the land where when you buy a machine gun they will give you free hand grenades.

"Mr. Zuniga had complained about the changes in Varby Gard, frustrated that the police did not have better control, friends said. A music lover, he no longer went out to concerts at night, said Hugo Garrido, 60, a close friend."

"The influx of heavy weapons has caught Sweden’s criminal justice systems unprepared."

THE NEW YORK TIMES, Hand Grenades and Gang Violence Rattle Sweden’s Middle Class, By Ellen Barry and Christina Anderson, March 3, 2018.

They obviously needed more armed guards at that school, and they should have aimed at the head and legs. Body armor matters.

Mass shootings happen when the public is disarmed by Big Bad Government.

I would much rather live in a country where school shootings are possible than where they are not.
    So would you.

And, I didn't see your answer to my question:
Why would anyone support unnecessary and ineffective restrictions on the exercise of the right to keep and bear arms by the law abiding?

Have you insisted that the schools provide ample armed security?

When most Americans start carrying concealed handguns there will be very little public violent crime of any kind. Not perfect, but much better than what we have now.

I do support it. Just because a law is not 100 percent effective doesn't mean it has no effect.

I am okay with a 15 or 20 percent drop in mass killing because it's harder to get rapid killing weapons.

    Why aren't you?

FYI, even the most wonderful parents can have problem children and vice versa.

Ought to start looking at cultural degradation, fractured family units, and mental health.

    not the tool used.

Statistics show that most people that do this types of horrific things don't come from a family with instilled values and a cohesive family structure.

All violent crime, including gun crime, goes up after the public is disarmed. Surely you know that.
