Red flag laws and mental health checks will all prevent individuals at high risk from getting access to these types of weapons.

Imagine thinking a bipartisan effort to limit these types of horrific events is a “failure” for democrats.

Hyperpartisian politics are ripping this nation apart

    People need to do better.

The democrats need guns as a campaign issue. You didn’t expect them to deal it away, did you?
Meanwhile at Bass Pro, a pallet of ~$1000 AR15’s sold out in a weekend. “Yer’ doin’ a hell of a job Brandon!”

They need about 10 Republicans. The Senate has a House bill that does more, Republicans won't touch it.

Were you really expecting real gun control? We're far too psycho for that.

F red flag laws that attempt to sneak past due process. Never, ever let that be a thing. If this stuns you, read up on that insanity.

It's good that there is no gun control. Your consternation proves you only want gun bans. You don't care about saving lives.

Well, you're right, because the money won't be spent the way it's supposed to be. Increased security at schools? Never gonna happen.

The single biggest thing we can do right now is eliminate all NO GUN zones. These people all share one thing in common: they want TIME to inflict carnage before being confronted. Our gun free zones guarantee this. It must be unknown to these shooters who is armed at any given time.

Get rid of our virtue signal no gun signs, they are getting people killed.

First, the agreement was just that -- an agreement between some federal congressmen. That is not, repeat, not a bill. The actual bill has yet to be written. Then, it will have to pass both houses of Congress. That is a very long and very rocky road. Getting things of importance done in Washington, other than raising 'campaign contributions', is rare. Consider the nonsense which obtained in setting up a special committee in the House to investigate the storming of the Capital building similar to that which investigated the Benghazi tragedy.

This poor old country mouse intends to take many breaths 'tween now and then.

    Hi, GlobalCitizen.

Great places to start with eliminating 'no gun' zones would be the annual NRA convention and the visitor galleries of both houses of our federal legislature. Once that has been accomplished and there have been no injuries or fatalities from gunshot for, say, 5 years, I'll be willing to accept the concept as viable.

It depends on what measures are included in "helps ensure dangerous criminals and those who are adjudicated as mentally ill can't purchase weapons".

Universal background checks? Sounds like mental health evaluation is not on the table, since it refers to people who have already been deemed mentally ill.

Or maybe it has no teeth. We'll know when the language comes out.

If the democrats cared they would push for broken windows policing, shakedowns of parolees, enforcement of bail conditions, and an increase of police and more prison space. Lastly, get busy on the death penalty.
BTW, there are around 740 inmates on California Death Row because Newsom won’t kill murderers but he’s all in on off’ing babies.
But no. They would rather spend their time and energy hating on Trump

it will take another ten or more years and maybe thousands of more dead innocents and most guns will then be taken away....the republican talking point of comparing inner city crime is a "war on drugs" issue that will take probably the same time for legalization and structured control thru the health sector and away from the police...the tremdous profit enables gun violence in our citys...it is all very, very simple

The Democrats are desperate to pass -something- and know they can't do it w/o GOP support.
Thus, they are forced to write a bill the GOP can vote for.
This is how government is supposed to work.

Red flag laws are gun control, just not applied to everybody. I actually think this is better than usual as far as congress lately and one could only hope for more liberal if they had the spine to get rid of the filibuster. But then the law could swing wildly from election to election, so I'm not sure if it would be ultimately helpful.

Yes. Enough with bills that are designed to fail.

    What is gun control?

My viewpoint is if you start out by saying that we need to find ways to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them, you are already going down the wrong track. Number one, you can't keep guns out of the hands of people who want guns. It just isn't going to happen. It's not hard to steal a gun. It happens all the time. Two, why on Earth would you let someone run around freely that you have already deemed to be so bad that you need to try and keep guns out of their hands? They will not only get guns anyway but, even if they don't, these people are a danger to the general public or specific individuals, whether they have a gun or not. That's just crazy to let them run around loose.

    Up-date, 6/18/2022.

It now appears that not only is there no bill in either house of the federal legislature, but the bipartisan group attempting to come up with agreed-upon recommendations for an eventual bill has stalled.

With the passage of time, the possibility of a bill continues to decrease.

And so it goes. Meanwhile, based upon data from 2020*, roughly 120 more deaths by gunshot are occurring each day in the United States of America.

    Guns.

    Deaths.

    On-going.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . 'n un-shot.

What would you have them do? They need 10 GOP Senators to do anything.

Is there a bill they aren't proposing that could get support from 10 GOP Senators and every Democrat?

At least this has SOME possibility of becoming law.
