"Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich declined to answer detailed questions for this article. “The Biden administration has weaponized law enforcement and fabricated a Document Hoax in a desperate attempt to retain political power,” Budowich said in a statement. “Every other President has been given time and deference regarding the administration of documents, as the President has the ultimate authority to categorize records, and what materials should be classified.”


Budowich accused the Justice Department of a “continued effort to leak misleading and false information to partisan allies in the Fake News,” and said that to do so “is nothing more than dangerous political interference and unequal justice. Simply put, it’s un-American.”

Let's cut to the chase - Is it possible this guy (Walt Nauta by name) was the one who tipped the FBI off to the presence of documents after the June appearance by the FBI at MAL? He'd certainly be in a position to know that there were still documents on site (cause he moved them) and where they where (cause he knows where he moved them to)....

As you said, he's spoken to the FBI, but were those conversations before the Aug raid, or during the investigation since??

Seems like he moves to the top of the list anyway....

"Former President Donald Trump’s legal defense team and prosecutors handling the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation are at federal courthouse in Washington, DC, Thursday morning in a secret dispute related to the unprecedented investigation.

CNN spotted the lawyers – including James Trusty, Evan Corcoran and Lindsey Halligan for Trump, and prosecutor Julie Edelstein and several others from the Justice Department who are known to be on the case – heading into a sealed proceeding before Chief Judge Beryl Howell at the federal courthouse on Thursday.

The hearing appears to still be ongoing and their appearance in Washington is notable because this legal team typically appears in court in Florida or New York on the documents investigation.

iirc: Trump wanted them unsealed so he could identify the witnesses and the DOJ didn't to protect the witnesses and it would discourage any future witnesses?

"Fans debate which song in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" is its top showstopper, but I’ve always been partial to "The Room Where It Happens," which centers on a most unsexy event: the Compromise of 1790.

Yes, the song — fusing vaudeville, jazz and hip-hop — is undeniably catchy. But what makes it indelible is how, through Aaron Burr’s unfulfilled ambition, it reveals the human longing to be at the center of the action, especially when the action is as pivotal as the center is exclusive.


And right now, in Washington, there is no room more pivotal than Courtroom 22A of the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse. That’s where Beryl Howell, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, presides — and under the rules governing that court, Howell decides any motion or application dealing "with a grand jury subpoena or other matter occurring before a grand jury." What’s more, every aspect of those proceedings is secret: All briefs and orders are sealed and all hearings, save for a rare and categorical exception, are closed. And although Howell has the option to make briefs, orders and transcripts of hearings public, in part or full, she must first find that "continued secrecy is not necessary to prevent disclosure of matters occurring before the grand jury."

Yet for all of the opacity surrounding grand jury proceedings, public reporting suggests Howell’s grand jury-related docket is not a collection of average, anonymous subpoena disputes. Rather, Howell has had to consider disputes over issues from witnesses’ invocation of the Fifth Amendment to the application of the presidential communications privilege, all of which directly impact the Justice Department’s marquee investigations: the Jan. 6 investigation (especially regarding the fake elector scheme and Donald Trump’s own orchestration of efforts to overturn the election) and the Trump classified records investigation. Indeed, despite the public focus on U.S District Judge Aileen Cannon, who is handling litigation about the Mar-a-Lago search warrant, Howell herself has clarified that two key grand jury subpoenas in the records investigation were issued from D.C.

Top national-security prosecutor joins Trump Mar-a-Lago investigation

"One of the Justice Department’s most experienced national security prosecutors has joined the team overseeing the intensifying investigation of classified documents at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and private club, people familiar with the matter said.

National security law experts interviewed by The Washington Post say prosecutors appear to have amassed evidence in the case that would meet some of the criteria for bringing charges against the former president — an unprecedented action that they said likely would only happen if the Justice Department believes it has an extremely strong case.

David Raskin,who served for many years as a senior federal prosecutor in New York City, and more recently has worked as a prosecutor in Kansas City, Mo., has been quietly assisting in the investigation into Trump and his aides, according to the people familiar with the matter, who like others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation.

Raskin is considered one of the most accomplished terrorism prosecutors of his generation, having worked on the case of Zacarias Moussaoui, who was tried in Virginia as a co-conspirator in the 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. Raskin was also part of the team that prosecuted Ahmed Ghailani in federal court in Manhattan in connection with the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa. Ghailani was acquitted of most counts but found guilty of conspiracy to destroy government buildings and property. He is the only Guantánamo Bay detainee to be brought to a U.S. court and tried and convicted. Both Moussaoui and Ghailani received life sentences."

Trump aide Kash Patel ordered to testify to grand jury investigating Mar-a-Lago documents

CNN — A federal judge on Tuesday ordered Donald Trump adviser Kash Patel to testify before a grand jury investigating the handling of federal records at Mar-a-Lago, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

Judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court has granted Patel immunity from prosecution on any information he provides to the investigation, the people said. Patel’s grand jury appearance hasn’t yet been scheduled.

The court’s decision is under seal, coming after a confidential proceeding where the Justice Department subpoenaed Patel to the grand jury in October. At that time, he declined to answer questions by asserting his Fifth Amendment protection from self-incrimination.

An attorney for Patel did not respond to CNN’s request for comment. Patel has not been charged with any crime. The Wall Street Journal first reported on the development."
