Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Biden “Abused His Power” by Lowering Gas Prices

A seemingly unhinged congressperson from Georgia whined on the floor of the House that Biden abused his power.

What was it Biden did? Order some department to do his political bidding? Try to launch a nuclear war?

No!

Apparently he affected the price of gas, and that was political. Because it was too close to the election. Apparently Taylor Greene thinks that high gas prices should stay high during the election season.

Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed Friday that President Joe Biden “abused his power” by lowering gas prices in order to influence the outcome of the midterm elections, leading many to speculate whether Republicans wanted lower gas prices or not.

In the months ahead of the November vote, Biden took multiple steps to bring down gasoline prices that had surged due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. One major move was to release 15 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which helped flood the U.S. gas market. The national average price per gallon dropped dramatically to $3.76 in October from about $5 per gallon in June.


Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives, Greene accused Biden of driving down gas prices for political gain. Republicans campaigned heavily on inflation, particularly gas prices, ahead of the 2022 midterms. While Democrats saw historic wins during the elections, about a third of voters said inflation was a top factor in how they voted, according to a CNN exit poll. More than seven out of 10 of those people voted for Republicans.

Apparently Taylor Greene introduced an amendment to block Biden from more strategic reserve releases.

An amendment pushed by Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to bar President Joe Biden from selling oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve crashed and burned in a massive bipartisan defeat Thursday.

The amendment failed 14-418, with only 14 Republicans in support. In announcing the amendment, Greene accused Biden of being a threat to the nation's national security and tricking and deceiving voters by pulling from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower gas prices. Evidently, not many other lawmakers agreed or thought the amendment prudent.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a frequent antagonist of Greene's, had a laugh at the Georgia Republican's expense following the failed amendment.

"Woof. Even my psilocybin amendment did better than this," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

 

These MAGA Republicans cannot be reasoned with, on any issue. Marge is one of the worst.

We're in big trouble for the next two years, with a MAGA Republican Speaker of the House assigning nincompoops like Marge, Boebert, Gaetz, Perry, et al to key committee positions, knowing full well that most are ignorant of the issues facing those committees. They'll hijack what little good works those committees manage to do and twist it all into "let's get that Biden crime family!"

She is right, using our strategic reserves in order to lower a price was a misuse of the reserves, doing so for political purposes even more so, having to do so because of his actions even more egregious and Congress should take steps to stop him.

 

It was a misuse of the reserves to just lower prices at the pump for a trivial amount. They are projecting back to $4.00 by April shall we deplete the reserves even more? What happens in the ME refuses to make up for the domestic losses and stops exporting or some other worldwide disruption of production and there is an actual shortage, you know what is supposed to be RESERVED for.

The SPR is intended for when there is a disruption of oil supply, which there was. Republicans could have passed this, but did not.

 

Well, republicans control the House. They said gas prices would normalize. Nothing to worry about. They are on it.

I DIDN'T ASK HIM TOO. He did it to try and end the strain one his administration and Democrat party caused by his price increases and inflation. The STRATEGIC reserve is not to be used to manipulate prices for political purposes and try to look like you're doing something. BIDEN was the disruption!!!!!! The oil was out there. It is there when there is a strategic interuption in supply like a WAR in the ME or of Russian embargo. It protects us form outside forces using their supply and denial of it for strategic purposes. It is a deterrence when it is there, Biden is using it for his own political purposes. Biden and the Dems could open our domestic supplies but they refuse too.

 

What Biden did was deplete the US's oil reserve. To replace that reserve will be very costly and many of the countries who received the US oil reserve aren't friends of the US (but may be friends of sleepy Joe).

Lowering prices is literally what the reserves are for. The same people stamping their feet and screeching to the sky that Biden should "do something" about fuel prices are the ones who kick and scream and cry even louder when he does pretty much the only thing in his power to do so. Pathetic.

 

When did they day that? Who? I hear them saying they will be going up in the spring and they are projected to do so.
