There is still a matter of getting a majority of the House to vote to go forward with an actual impeachment...
And, as of now, McCarthy doesn't have the votes...
McCarthy can lose no more than four GOP votes before the effort collapses — he's unlikely to win over any Democrats.
The make-or-break votes will come from 18 politically vulnerable Republicans who represent districts Biden won in 2020 and other self-styled GOP pragmatists. And that may be difficult.

I have been reading about this and thinking, and I'm not so sure impeachment is the route. The reason why is that I think the impeachment procedure was intended for a president's actions while he or she is in office, not for any random act that they did before being president.
As for those previous actions, the voters have already made their choice.
    Just my two cents............

The entire country of Ukraine was and is corrupt. Remember when Democrats were also making this claim of corruption prior to the US coupe of Ukraine? Heck, they replaced Shokin with someone who was just released from prison ON CORRUPTION charges! You then impeach a sitting president that wanted to re-investigate Shokin's claim. You can't make this chit up! Now they are a Democracy, yet.. billions of US dollars can't be accounted for..

Shokin was starting to tread into waters where he was actually starting to see the head of the corruption. He was fired for it.

I'm just not sure. There are several outcomes that might end this particular escalation.

One would be if the Republicans call it off because they can't make a case. That would be bad for McCarthy because the loons might try and remove him as Speaker.

Another would be them going thru with it and it backfiring badly. That might be good for McCarthy because the loons in his party might be satisfied that he tried.

Another outcome would be that this drags on until the election and the balance of power flips in the House. This might not be so good if the Democrats extend the cycle of revenge.

I really don't see an upside.

His kid was hired because of his connections and those connections were needed to help Burisma. It was NOT US policy to fire the prosecutor, Biden did that on his own when his son's company needed help.

I always run away from deadly toxic clouds...

This is of ZERO importance as this stage.... it might get to MICROSCOPIC importance by Halloween, but I wouldn't bet on it...

Good. That'll keep them busy, like they were busy "investigating" Hillary for 4 yrs straight. Gridlock in DC is usually a good thing.

Ironically Hunter was the reason Trump was impeached for the 1st time (he used the office of the POTUS to pressure Ukraine to find dirt on Hunter)

He definitely is deserving of this, and more. But we will see if republicans go through with it.
