The odd thing about this is I’ve been at airports late at night and most of the food joints were closed. One specific airport is Newark. I guess people at airports don’t get hungry at night seven days a week, but they do only on the thruway on Sundays.

Yeah, this bill hit its intended target, but it will result in more money for Chik fil A.

The difference of course being that truck drivers are mandated to take extended time off (10 hours). Therefore the need to access food at rest stops is much different than the need for someone at an airport. Apples and oranges.

Each day, drivers are allowed a period for 14 consecutive hours, during which they can drive for up to 11 hours after being off duty for 10 or more consecutive hours. The 14-hour window begins the moment a driver starts any kind of work, and once they reach the 14-hour mark, they may not drive again until they’ve been off duty for at least 10 hours.

Says the person who has yet to come up with a valid argument, just use the same talking points I already noted would happen.

Yep, and remember, this is in The City That Never Sleeps. The bill requires they be open 7 days a week, but doesn't require they be open 24 hours a day also? Hmm...

A valid argument has already been provided many times. The bill is for NEW contracts. Truckers need the ability to eat. Not sure why you have a problem with that. Oh wait...because you need to play the victim.

And those other locations that are closed on other days will be required to be open 7 days just like Chik-Fil-A

I would encourage you to do a search for the rest stops on the NY thruway. I just did as saw that they have numerous eateries to choose from.

Has any other state or authority passed a law like this? This is typical liberal fascism - they want to force people to do certain things while also forcing people not to do certain things. What's next, will the left demand that a certain percentage of truckers be of a certain race, gender or religion? Don't laugh, California tried to do that with corporate board members.

And can you cite a link stating how many truckers are dying of starvation while on the road? If you know anything about truckers, anything at all, you would know that they know where every diner, restaurant, hotdog stand and restroom is on their routes.

The more I think about this, the more I'm bundling this law in with all the other nonsense about banning Chik fil A from other places because of....drum roll.....lgb issues.

Did you forget your own argument? The same argument in the bill btw...

"Chik-fil-A's got the contracts and the state of NY found that allowing them to close on Sundays adversely impacted the people using the facilities."

If restaurant A is closed on Sundays, but restaurant B is open on Sundays...where is the adverse impact? And why is there suddenly a supposed adverse impact only after Chik-fil-A started getting contracts?

And yes, obviously those other restaurants that also had a day of closing will be required to remain open also. That does not change the fact that those places have been there even longer than Chik-fil-A and yet this law was never proposed until AFTER Chik-fil-A started getting contracts.

Additionally, this is in The City That Never Sleeps, aptly named because there is ALWAYS something going on. Why didn't they also require that they be open 24 hours? The argument that you, and they, give would actually apply even more.

Quite the persecution complex you got going. This is a bill all FUTURE restaurants will have to comply with. Chick-fil-A can choose not to open future restaurants at NY rest stops.
I do like your strawman argument about "truckers dying of starvation". Hahahaha...talk about extreme.

When I try to tell myself that others religious delusions don't affect my life, I remember that Chik-fil-A and Crumbl are closed on Sundays. Science damn it.

It is NOT in the city. This is the NY (STATE) Thruway system.

    Here is their website

    https://www.thruway.ny.gov/travelers/travelplazas/index.cgi

Guess what else....ONLY Chik-Fil-A restaurants are closed on a day of the week. The locations are marked on the website as (Closed on Sundays)

I guess I should have looked for myself before taking your word that there other restaurants that were closed on other days of the week.

Looks like I had found an old list. Thanks for the updated list. But it still doesn't help your case. In fact it just shows that this bill is even more not needed. Each of the locations has multiple restaurants that are open 7 days a week. So where is the adverse affect (or as the bill puts it "unnecessary inconvenience") of not being able to get food? And note: those are just restaurants. You can also get food at convenience stores located along the thruway also.

I sincerely doubt you looked at any list as you were under the impression that this was about New York CITY. Even an old and outdated list would have told you otherwise.

Chittenango stop only has a Chik-Fil-A for restaurant service

Incorrect. There are stops that only have one eatery. Does it make sense for that one eatery to be closed? Of course not.

I think Chik-Fil-A should play their game, except, on Sundays, there's a Christian themed menu.

    • The Holy Grail: A large cup of freshly squeezed lemonade with a hint of honey and mint.
    • The Bread of Life: A soft and fluffy biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, cheese, and bacon.
    • The Fish and Loaves: A crispy fish fillet with tartar sauce, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted bun.
    • The Garden of Eden: A fresh and colorful salad with grilled chicken, apples, walnuts, cranberries, and feta cheese.
    • The Last Supper: A hearty chicken pot pie with carrots, peas, and potatoes in a flaky crust.
    • The Resurrection: A decadent chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles

Seems to me if the govt is going to change the terms of a signed contract, then the govt is liable for covering the costs of the contract being renegotiated.

So, Chik-Fil-A has a contract to put restaurants at rest stops. Every other restaurant chain that has locations at these rest stops are open 7 days a week.

The state of NY is making it so that IN THE FUTURE any restaurant signing a contract to put a location at a rest stop that location must also be open 7 days a week.

Remember Chik-Fil-A is the ONLY chain that gets to close on Sundays and now they want to complain that they are going to have to do WHAT EVERY OTHER CHAIN RESTAURANT DOES.

They are NOT changing the terms of a signed contract. This law will only apply to FUTURE contracts.

Based on the info in the OP that does seem to be the case.
