Installed into a new partition so I can dual boot my old Vista system and the new Windows 8. So far so good.............on 8 right now and have FireFox and my bookmarks installed. Anyone else taking the plunge?

It's the downloadable upgrade...Windows 8 Pro. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_DIS_ShopHP_FPP_Light Download size was about 2GB. I upgraded from Win7 and kept all settings, installed programs, etc. The "Modern UI" makes it seem a bit difficult to get to Admin tools and such, but it's really not that hard. Go to the search charm, type in "control", for instance, and you get access to the Control Panel. On the other hand, you can easily switch to the "normal" windows desktop and get to all that stuff.
Full Pro install here as I was going from Vista. Zippy, just hit the spyglass charm and look in the "system" column next to the search column and there are the admin tools including Control Panel. Shutting down is a 4 step process now but I expect a future upgrade will change that.
I believe that's true, though if you get the Win8 Pro upgrade you'll also be able to install Windows Media Center for free. Personally, I use VLC for DVD's and such. Any other media player will still work but you might not get a neat little tile for the Modern UI...at least not right away. I expect VLC to come out with something soon.
Until when.So it's easier and seems more user friendy and compliments existing programs with flexibility. But what happens when the Government wants to quickly shut down systems. The Newest Windows will be the First to Flag down. Because it's built into the program. I used to think Bill Gates was some computer maverick. He's a Big Obama backer. He is preoccupied with Innoculating the World with his often fatal vaccines. Why on Earth would he do that.To control Population growth. That is why Abortions are now Easy Breezy in the United States. More black babies are aborted than born in the U.S. For starters.
" It " Installed.Gee I dint know we had such advances in technology. So ... You played No part in the Install. " It " took care of it all. Um ... with all Do candor ... You really meant YOU Installed off a CD/DVD. I mean let's get real here.Computers and software and devices are still under OUR purview.I mean If and until Obama get's Re-elected.
Tried a DVD video and no the MS Media Player would not play. Downloaded a copy of VLC Media player which I have used on my Windows Vista notepad for a couple of years because Vista MS Media Player would not play some DVD's and now I can play using it in Windows 8.
Yes it did, amazing how easy it is with self installers compared to the old DOS days or even back to my Timex-Sinclare days. It prompted me when it needed me. Pretty much. No I meant what I said. Nothing to do today but to try and be argumentative about nothing?
Just as with Vista, I haven't used the native Windows media player for years VLC is perfectly seamless.
Win8 has higher resource demand... Windows 8 demand higher than Win 7's, says Microsoft's Ballmer 29 Oct.`12 - Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has a rosy outlook for their new Windows 8 operating system, saying Monday that "we're seeing preliminary demand well above where we were with Windows 7." But other measures indicate that this statement may be somewhat misleading.
