Oh, I see what we are getting at. So was it a matter of Congress acting more responsibly after Beirut or was it a matter of President acting more responsibly after Beirut. As I recall, Reagan didn't stonewall that investigation for two years, and on the other hand, Obama produced the smoking gun e-mail from Ben Rhodes to Susan Rice two years late. I didn't recall that Reagan tried to hide the real motive of the Beirut attack until after an election while Obama did for purely political purposes. As I recall, Reagan didn't hide the real reason why the Marines were in Beirut in the first place and the Obama Administration still hasn't provided any explanation as to why Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi at all. I also do not recall that the Marines asked for more security and their security was cut instead. And finally, I do not imagine that Ronald Reagan would ever allow an ambassador and three brave Americans to be left twisting in the wind for eleven hours without rendering aid or working on a rescue. Do you think Ronald Reagan would have left these men to twist in the wind for eleven hours?

So comparing Beirut to Benghazi, on its face seems a bit pointless. The two acts have almost nothing in common and the actions or inactions of the Presidents have nothing in common either. Beirut and Benghazi both begin with the letter 'B' and they are both cities in the Middle East, but other than that, and comparison seems rather tenuous.

And what gives with liberals thrashing around for ways to make Obama and Clinton seem less culpable if they believe their isn't a culpable act. Unless of course, you believe there was a culpable act. Then that would explain the liberal reaction to all of this.

See, I think the proper response would be to investigate and find out how the security failed- with the intention of trying to prevent future similar attacks.

That is what was done in Beirut.

But this committee, like yourself, seem focused whether terrorists were blamed quickly enough.

And this is where Americans look at all of this as the partisan exercise it is.

None of you are concerned about the attack on Benghazi itself- you are concerned with being able to blame it on the Administration.

Yeah the difference between Beirut and Benghazi is startlingly different- 4 dead in Benghazi, over 200 dead in Beirut, partisan blame game in Benghazi, non-partisan fact finding to prevent future attacks in Beirut.

    - - - Updated - - -

Thats what the Republicans keep trying to sell to the American people.

Which is of course why there is now the 8th Congressional investigation into this.....

Most of us are focused on why 4 Americans died, why they were there in the first place, why we didn't have people ready to go to support them when the Cairo embassy was breached a few hours earlier, why nobody went to aid Americans who were under siege EIGHT freakin' hours after the attack started AND why we were lied to for weeks later about the true nature of the attack and who was responsible for the situation being as it was, vulnerable to attack.

All reasonable questions. Think back again to Beirut- and apply all of those questions to the 200 servicemen that died there. Those are all reasonable questions to ask- but in the case of Beirut it was done in a non-partisan attempt to determine the facts in order to use those facts to prevent future attacks.

From the beginning, it was clear that the 'investigation' was focused on blame- not facts.

    8 hours?

    http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10000872396390444620104578008922056244096

First shots were fired at 9:30 p.m.- U.S. security forces arrived sometime after 1 a.m.

    Lied for 'weeks later'?

The attack happened on September 11.

By September 20- 9 days later, the Administration was calling it a terrorist attack.

This is what the Republicans have been trying to frame as a massive conspiracy.

And its why it has only gotten any traction with the far right wing.

Tragic attack- tragic deaths- but 1/50th the number of tragic deaths as happened in Beirut.

And when it happened in Beirut, Congress worked together to find out what happened to prevent future attacks- not to attack the President.

9:40 p.m. (3:40 p.m. ET): Gunfire and an explosion are heard. A TOC agent sees dozens of armed people over security camera flowing through a pedestrian gate at the compound's main entrance. It is not clear how the gate was opened.
The agent hits the alarm and alerts the CIA security team in the nearby annex and the Libyan 17th of February Brigade, one of several powerful militias serving as a de facto security presence in Benghazi. The embassy in Tripoli and the State Dept. command center were also alerted.
State Dept. Diplomatic Security follows events in real time on a listen-only, audio-only feed, according to testimony of Charlene Lamb, the deputy assistant director for international programs, given before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Oct 10.
    .
    .
5:15 a.m. (11:15 p.m. ET): The U.S. Regional Security Office in Tripoli gets a phone call from an Arabic-speaking source who says a Westerner has been found in Benghazi and is perhaps at a hospital. It's believed to be Ambassador Stevens. Transfer to airport is arranged.
At around the same time, the additional security team finds transportation from the airport under the escort of the Libyan Shield, another local militia, but decides to head to the annex after learning that Stevens was almost certainly dead. Just after their arrival, the annex takes mortar fire, sustaining three direct hits. The precision of the attacks indicates a level of sophistication and coordination.
Former U.S. Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty are killed in the mortar assault, which lasts just 11 minutes before dissipating; a DS agent and annex security member are severely wounded.

What I take away from this is, Obama should be relieved he didn't have to go through an event like Beirut, cause I believe cons would have stormed the White House and strung him up. No investigation or explanation would have been given.

1:30 a.m. (7:30 p.m. ET): The U.S. security team from Embassy Tripoli lands in Benghazi and learn that the ambassador is missing. They try to arrange for transportation into town, with the goal of locating Stevens.

Nobody lied about him being in the situation room, as no WH official ever claimed he was.
Of course the lie that there was real time video being fed to the situation room was debunked.

What I find rather odd is that for some reason there are people who think that the president can only do his job by being in the situation room. They point to the pictures of the bin ladin raid as some sort of "evidence" that he should have been there, despite the ridiculouslyobvious different circumstances.

It is a patently stupid perspective worth of witchhunters.

That security doesn't make it to the annex until just before the mortar attack that kills the last 2 guys. So where was everybody else? Those guys died about EIGHT HOURS after the initial attack. How come people who were ready to go and assist the guys in Benghazi were not given clearance to go? Used to be we would never leave Americans in harm's way to die; but not in Benghazi. I gave Obama credit for having the guts to go after Bin Laden; this time he loses it for being weak and dishonest. To this day we do not know who concocted the ridiculous story about the video and a non existent demonstration. To this day we do not know where the CINC was on the night in question. 5 days later Susan Rice appears on the sunday talk shows are spews the party line about the video; nothing about a terrorist attack, it was a demonstration that got out of hand. 5 freakin' days after, are we supposed to believe they didn't know by then what the truth was? But they lied and the media let 'em get away with it. 2 weeks later Obama gives a speech at the UN and STILL talks about that damn video, implying it has anything to do with the attack. He and Clinton stood over the dead bodies of those 4 dead Americans and flat out lied to their families about the circumstances. These people have no honor.

So where was he? How come he won't say? How come nobody will say? 4 Americans were murdered in a terrorist attack and we still don't know to this day where our CinC was and what he did.

He was in the white house. He has said that. Various witnesses in the numerous investigations have said this.

First it was the lie he was flying off to vegas. when that was totally debunked, it was where was he? why wasn't he in the situation room?

Its a blatant attempt to smear the president by insinuating that some how he was negligent and that is why four americans died.

that is simply stupid and ignores the facts in evidence.

But no amount of facts, logic or common sense are going to change the minds of entrenched partisans that refuse to accept any answer other than the one they want.

After you wipe the spittle form your monitor, read this and tell me if the Colonel here is qualified to refute your angry claim...................

    https://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2012/...attack-he-could-have-ordered-an-intervention/

Video: Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer’s Sources Say Obama was in the Situation Room Watching Benghazi Attack – He Could Have Ordered an Intervention
    October, 28, 2012 — nicedeb
Tony Shaffer is a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who gained notoriety for his claims about mishandled intelligence before the 9/11/01 attacks and for the censoring of his book, Operation Dark Heart.

He told Fox’s Judge Jeanine Pirro that his sources say Obama was one of the people in the room watching the Benghazi attack go down and it would have taken an order by the president to intervene.

“Do we know if the President watched this?” Pirro asked him.

Shaffer answered, “According to my sources – yes - he was one of those in the White House Situation room in real time, watching this. And the question becomes, what did the President do or not do in the moments he saw this unveiling….He and only he could issue a directive for Sec of Defense, Panetta to do something.”

    Once again, Obama voted “present”.

Like I said, nobody lied about him being in the situation room. this guy had no direct knowledge and simply lied.
And in particular, the various investigations have proven that there was not real time video. .

But, your appeal to authority is duly noted.

But lets examin this and other lies orginating with usual right wing media and regrettably propagated within the news cycle by mainstream sources. Real journalism is almost dead.

New Emails Reveal Obama White House Worked on Concocting Benghazi Lie DURING the Attacks

May 23, 2014 By Matthew Burke

    Obama Hillary

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said on Thursday that the Obama White House was contacting YouTube owner Google during the Benghazi terrorist attacks, working on the false narrative even before Americans were out of harm’s way and before the intelligence community examined available evidence.

The still classified Obama State Department email, according to Issa, shows that the Obama White House rushed to settle on the false narrative of the anti-Islamic YouTube video instigating the attacks, which was completely at odds with the conclusions reached by reports from the ground.

This new evidence destroys the Obama White House claims, communicated by Obama spokesman Jay Carney, that the White House obtained the false narrative from CIA talking points, since, according to Congressman Issa, the communication with YouTube was conducted by the Obama White House before any CIA talking points were concocted.

The subject line of the email, ironically sent at 9:11 p.m. (the attacks took place on 9/11/12) on the night of the attack, was “Update on Response to actions – Libya,” hours before the attack had ended.

“The e-mail shows the White House had hurried to settle on a false narrative — one at odds with the conclusions reached by those on the ground — before Americans were even out of harm’s way or the intelligence community had made an impartial examination of available evidence,” Issa said.

Issa has called for the Obama White House to declassify the email.

According to Issa, one of the items noted in the email stated, “White House is reaching out to U-Tube [sic] to advise ramifications of the posting of the Pastor Jon video.”

Issa scolded current Secretary of State, Democrat John Kerry, for just now turning over a classified version of the email, some 20 months after the attack, while calling on the regime to release a unclassified copy.
“Unfortunately, Secretary Kerry and the State Department continue to try to keep this information from the public, only turning this document over to Congress last month. While the information I have cited from this email is clearly unclassified, the State Department has attempted to obstruct its disclosure by not providing Congress with an unclassified copy of this document that redacted only classified portions outlining what the Department of Defense and the Secretary of State were doing in response to the attack in Benghazi that night.”
“This tactic prevents the release of the email itself,” said Issa.

Yep. the above is misinterpreted crap spun up to mean something that it doesn't. But what should one expect from the tea party news network?

As to your dismissal of my links, I am not surprised. Especially the 18 lies told by republicans. It seems that the findings of the 13 investigations that debunked those lies is something you totally ignored.

I am of course not surprised.

    I'm not deflecting at all.

you were the one that attempted to deflect the facts with this idiotic opinion piece passing for journalism that no doubt the tea partiers lap up.

Fact is the the republicans and right wing media have been lying their asses off about benghazi from day one, when Ol Mitt called the "pre-emptive" press conference in the wee hours of 9/12.

A list of 18 debunked lies - debunked by 13 investigations that apparently most republicans have completely ignored and still regurgitate them. Its seems the only way they can maintain their witchhunt.
