agreed, other people's dogs drive me nuts... everyone thinks it's cute, but I can't stand them. I like my dog but I don't subject others to her hyperness.

popular issue only.... no different than when the movement in the 50s, to ban car radios because they were a distraction. No different than the push to ban windshield wipers in the 20s. no different than talking on phones in the 90s, and texting and driving will be replaced by the next technological thing we may not even have thought of yet.

And none of those popular complaint issues are any different than bratty kids in the back seat fighting, teens riding with other teens, eating a big mac. But people don't get the facebook kind of validation for being upset with those kind of issues.

I slow down. I've never understood the "pushing" thing. All it encourages is a brake check and if you hit them.... you're at fault. Plus, if you brake check someone and they hit you.... now you have to deal with a person who knows you wrecked them on purpose.... very easy road rage incident now, and noone knows how that person that just rearended you is going to react. They are completely in the wrong, but if they shoot you, you're still dead.

Personally, I just (no brakes) slow down. If the speed limit is 45, and I have someone riding my ass trying to push me.... I slow down to 35. now they can't tell if you are purposely doing it to them, or just naive.... The enragement that causes behind you in your rearview is classic.

this is political blather... basically, you don't like differences of opinion and define different points of view as "blather"

    don't sign in then

restrictions on what minors can do within the restaurant are now reducing how many that can be hired. 14-17 year olds can not work with equipment that heats over 100 degrees, or work with hot oil over 100 degrees. This limits who can flip your burger or cook your fries.

It is relevant because in your first post you stated that they can't keep the oonions off your burger and that they better flip your burger well. If they don't what do you do? I have seen many, many people who seem to think they are above those who work to serve people. The tone of this whole thread makes you seem like one of those type of entitled people who look down upon what you consider t o be lower then your station work.

Then you understand that dealing with the public, cleaning up after them and having to deal with their demands of whim is not an easy job. Sometimes for people college and trade school is not an option.

Once again here is an attitude of entitlement. It seems that since you got out everyone should, which brings me back to my first statement if every one got out there would be no one to flip that burger for you. I once again state that according to the Michigan department of labor minors can no longer work grill, cook fries, and in some cases make the sandwiches.

So big-government nanny state paternalism limits opportunity once again.

Uhhh? If I get onions on my burger what do I do? Well what do you think I do? Of course I pull out my Sig Sauer .40 and start blasting away. You really want to discredit me, don't you? Why? Because you have no argument. So let's stop attacking me and start attacking my position, shall we? I say again: Whether you think I'm a jerk or not is completely irrelevant to my argument or to the veracity thereof.

You're right. It's not an easy job. That's why I moved on to better things. But you don't get paid based on how "hard" your job is. If that were the case, Hollywood actors would be earning minimum wage and teachers and police officers would be earning $20,000,000/yr. like the Hollywood actors do now. You get paid based on the value of your labor on the open market. Brad Pitt's labor is worth a lot on the open market so he gets $20,000,000 just to sign on to a movie (not to mention his back end deal which is substantially higher). Corporate CEOs earn millions and millions of dollars because their labor is worth a lot to the owners of the companies they lead.

As far as higher education, it is a small minority of people who are unable to get into a trade school or university. Guess what? That's life. Some of us are smarter... some of us are better looking, some of us are more charming... and some of us are dumb as stumps. That's life. But I'll bet I can take any average burger flipper with a decent work ethic and coach him or her to become a valuable employee with a desired skill, thus tripling, quadrupling, quintupling her earning potential.

You keep blowing that horn... Fast food work is supposed to be temporary. If it's not? That's on the individual who chooses not to strive to better themselves. You are once again trying to assault my character by claiming I subscribe to some "entitlement mentality." Again, irrelevant as it is to this discussion I do feel the need to correct you: If I embraced entitlement as you are trying to claim, I would not have left my job at Hardee's in 1985 to go on to college, grad school, and a rewarding professional career. No, no! I would have said "I'm making $3.35/hr! This is totally unfair! I'm entitled to a higher wage! There's no way I can raise a family on this paltry wage... I am OWED better."

I am owed nothing. The only thing to which I'm entitled is the freedom to strive to better myself. Everything else is up to me.

I never understood why the arbitrary talking point is a family of four...

Most minimum wage earnings are not married and don't not have children, according to statistics...

because a family that has two working min wagers earns about 32k.... more than enough to survive off of.

problem is, most min wagers think "liveable wage" includes being able to live by themselves in a house/apt they could only afford with a roommate (or spouse)

Imagine a Republican Nominee saying this..

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.
