When I saw the title I had to read, because I thought this thread would be about me. ;)

I'm pretty sick and tired of hyper-partisans. Look, I get if you vote down the line, I don't fault anyone for that. I thought I was fair and independent minded so I listened to the 2008 debates - all of them, on both sides. When I realized that I'd take any one of the red guys over the blue, I realized that I really am a Republican. And that I should feel more comfortable about voting along party lines. But to defend a side simply because it's yours? Look, I agreed with every GOP candidate more than any Dem candidate, but I'm not about to pretend like my side is right because it's my side. There are a plethora of instances in which I disagreed with the candidates - there were cases where I disagreed with ALL of the candidates on my side on one issue. And I REALLY liked one of the Dem candidates in 2008 who, although wonky, I felt like I could trust. But issues *are* separate. I'm not going to defend the GOP position all the time just because I'm a registered Republican. I differ from the party on most issues, and I'll say that the GOP is wrong on most issues (imo, of course), but that they are LESS wrong on most issues. It's simply a lesser of evils.

Oh, and people who always post sober. What bastards! ;)

Can you be a little more specific?

So you're saying the solution is simply to report/explain something to someone? What exactly would we be explaining to them?
Please,....be more detailed on the specific actions you think would help to lesson the problem...

Cooking fries is not an essential job.

... and the word deserve means to be worthy of reward or punishment. Wages are not a reward, lack of them is not a punishment. Employment is a trade. I solve a problem for you and you give me an IOU for a future solution (in the form of dollars). To assume that simply being employed means you deserve a living wage, means someone should solve infinite solutions from you simply because you do .... something.

There is no authority who will judge you worthy of this guarantee, who is capable of continuously making up the difference between what you can contribute and what you require. Whether you deserve a living wage is no more appropriate a question than asking whether you deserve a rainy day.

Where do you meet these crybabies? Relatives of yours?

Situations are individual. Why a person is working a minimum wage job can only be answered by them. They are working, despite the fact that lots of people condemn them, they keep on working.

Who made it your business to judge them?

If they know anything at all, you'll get the same answer.

I don't know anyone who works for minimum wage. I did when I was 16. Then I finished high school. Then I finished college. Then I went into the real world. Then I finished grad school. I make a very comfortable living. There is nothing special about me.

I do not condemn anyone who works a minimum wage job.

    I am not judging anyone

So then you're saying that there is no other way to fix the problem,
other than what you're suggesting...(whatever that may be exactly)...?
I doubt that. But if it is truly the case, let us just hope that there is someone who can explain it better than you.

Well if everyone did that there would be no one left to flip that burger for you. I get the feeling that you may be one of those wawa cry babies yourself if you get onions on your cheese burger. The kind that comes storming into the restaurant, charges up in front of everyone else, demands to see the manager and screams at the top of their lungs " I said no onions". I am also assuming that you have never worked in fast food. I could be wrong.

yes there would.... teenagers... like the job is designed for.

I can't speak for him, but I have worked in fast food.... and improved my skillset both while I was there, and become a manager within 2 years..... and then out within 5. I paid attention and observed plenty of middleaged burgerflippers that beleived they were God's gift to Wendy's.... but making less than me, at 20 y.o. I'm sure they are still thinking they are the greatest, at whatever min wage job they currently hold down, althewhile, complaining that min wage needs to be more.... despite NEVER improving her skill set.

Sure there would: Teenagers getting their first job in high school... as these entry-level jobs used to go to.

You assume incorrectly. Nor is your fallacious assumption in any way relevant to the topic.

Batting 0 for 3 I see. My first job was at Hardee's in 1985. I made $3.35/hr. I was in high school. I worked part time there until I finished high school. While in college I worked for a pizza chain, also part time. When I finished college I went out into the world. Then I finished grad school. Now I earn a very comfortable living with the skills and knowledge I acquired through investing in myself. I am in no way special.

And when I worked those fast food jobs there was no way I even considered that this could be a career path... And everyone I worked with -- except the manager -- had the same attitude. We all knew this was just a first job and that it would be temporary because we all expected to go on to better things. We were in no way special.

I have tried to facebook find a coworker of mine that I believed was a future, middle aged min wager.... but he has a very common name, so of course, finding him on facebook is impossible.

I remember, he jumped from Wendy's, to McD's, to arbys, back to Wendy's, and then said to me when I was manager "well, I'm not going to be like you, I will be out of here and you'll still be here"

well, obviously, I worked my way up and out.... I can't imagine that highschool drop out did

But he "deserves" to make more money than a starting teacher with a Master's Degree.

The "New Breed" of Republicans systematically degrading and disassembling what was once a "Grand 'Ol Party", and telling those of us who believed in it and supported it for decades that we are no longer welcome.

Here's the starting pay scale in a district I was in 2 years ago in Florida.

Here is a salary schedule from Orlando area (higher cost of living due to places like Disney, MGM, etc...)

Obviously, Orlando would be much higher due to cost of living associated with living in Orlando..... but a 15$/hour min wage hike would be state wide.

So at a 15 hour min wage in Florida passes, it passes for the entire state of Florida....

so a burger flipper would make 31,200 a year to get my order wrong in my old county, and a teacher in the same county, with a masters degree, would get 32,926. A teacher with just a bachelor's degree would have to teach for 2 full years before they made more than the sandwich artist at the one fast food joint in the town (subway)

    this completely doesn't add up

now, in that county I worked in 3 years ago, I was in my 12th year.... so I made 37 k.... a measly 6k more than the proposed subway employee would make.

I also worked 60 hours a week, Even if Subway won't give me overtime, I can find a job at McDonalds for 20 more hours a week, and at 15/hour xs 60 hours a week, I would make 46,800. So even with 12 years experience, if min wage goes up to 15/hour.... I can make more by quitting teaching, and out qualifying normal burger flippers, and taking 2 jobs to = what I work teaching.

Meanwhile, that burger flipper I replaced.... can't just take my job I left so what does he do?

eventually, the economy will adjust, and teachers wages will increase.... and I can go back into teaching then.... but until then.... however long it takes, the underqualified person I replace, is SOL until I choose to go back to teaching.

The current GOP Base would consider Reagan to be a "liberal".....and Ike to be a "Commie".
