MTV is a private company, I would hope that parents would hear about this trash and keep their children from watching, barring that, these idiots who do watch or participate will learn, probably around the same time they peel off that fading Obama poster and enter the real world...

You're creating a false dichotomy. Acknowledging the hurdles you face head on and understanding them is fundamental for rising up the economic ladder. That's why I moved from a forgotten town in the rust belt to a place with more concentrated wealth.

Let's not forget that there are people alive today who lived through Jim Crow, people who went to segregated schools. The sins of the past can't be eradicated in one generation. Furthermore, most people are not very successful in general. The average person will stay at the same place they began, whether poor or wealthy, and many families are still living off of assets created by low-interest federal housing loans that black people were excluded from.

Fact is, this TV show is about the liberal condition.

They didn't interview any conservatives.

I'm addressing it head on as opposed to your statements and this documentary. I can think of no greater hurdle than the mentality of envy and it's someone else's fault.

And? They are all my age and older and in retirement. And guess what, they got good educations. And guess what my kids went to the same schools and had the same teachers as the blacks where I live. And everyday I deal with managers, and purchasing agents, and engineers and on and on who are black at the largest manufactures in the country.

Not true at all, most people are successful and you don't have to do much to be successful. Get your education, don't have children out of wedlock, don't engage in crime, don't abuse drugs or alcohol, get married in your late 20's, and be a good employee.

 

If that's all you want out of life, go for it. If that's your measure of success, your "pursuit of happiness", then by all means knock yourself out.

Mine is different. My pursuit of happiness is different from yours, and I refuse to be held down or limited by your arbitrary conceptions of "success".

If you get your jollies by being a "good employee", by all means, go for it. But don't foist your measure of success on me, I won't stand for it.

Allow me to break it down in to more simpler terms that may clarify the obvious. He broke in to our "house", is stealing from us (employment, public benefits and possibly entitlements) and in an effort to destroy the home (trying to pit Americans against each other), he is sitting in our front rooms telling Americans what a POS we are... Yeah, he's a real Gem of a human being!

All he explained was how easy it is to be successful in this country. And I'll be G-Damned if you didn't try to turn it in to yet more liberal whining and (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about how liberals are such victims.

You are delusional. Black neighborhoods have the worst, least effective institutions. In study after study, researchers have found that the differences between poor black and poor white communities make them difficult to compare. Look up economic mobility in the US if you want to see how unlikely you are to move up the economic ladder by county.

Again, we aren't talking about ancient history here. The last segregated school was desegregated in the 70s, and you can't seriously think that people beaten down by institutional racism for 150 years would immediately ascend to an equal place on the starting block. Or that people who perpetuated that racism would just let it go.

White people alive today benefit enormously from institutionalized racism of the past, even if your family doesn't.

 

It will appeal to racists in general like the race obsessed left.

 

So what do YOU think it takes to be successful and what is YOUR mark of success then? And explain how being a bad employee is the road to success. You see early on in my work career going back to high school working in the drug store I found being a good employee got you raises and promotions. I saw when I entered the adult workforce the same people who complained about not being successful and getting ahead were the same employees looking to do the least amount or work necessary to get through the day and not carrying if the company they were working for was successful.

So tell me where I have gone wrong. Explain how those things I listed are NOT on the path to success and in fact behaviors just the opposite and the better path.

 

What he defined is what responsible people consider success. A job, financially sound, a family or not. You rant about not forcing the definition of success on you then forget to even mention what success is to YOU. Instead answering him with a non answer and a good bye.

There were no black and white schools for any of my kids and there aren't now for my grandkids. My oldest is now 40 years old. They all went to the same schools and had the same teachers. And guess what, the outcomes are not the same down the road as the problems that exist in the black community keep those outcomes down. NOT Whites.

I lived it. Starting in 1965 in the Deep South and went to school with black kids in the neighborhood. Then came the forced busing. I was going to a school that was built in the 1930's and they bused in black kids from a bordering predominately black town who had been attending a school that have been built just 10 years ago, a newer and better school.

You can't be seriously relying on 150 years ago to excuse the failures of black society

Tell me how my family and my kids benefit. In 1974 I was working for a black department supervisor with a black leadman at the Ingall's ship yard. OH the racism. In fact my job before that one my shop leadman was black.

Tell me what "white guilt" am I supposed to be carrying?

To each his own. I grew up without a father. I learned about crime by doing it, not by looking at it. But now I know what to say to my children, when they ask me what's what. "Daddy, why shouldn't I steal, what's wrong with it?" Well.... the one thing you will never ever hear coming out of my mouth is, "because I'm the daddy and I say so". Nah man, when my kid asks me why he shouldn't use drugs, I'm going to take him down to skid row and show him. I'm not going to fill his tiny impressionable little mind full of horror stories about heroin addicts, I'm just going to show him. "Here, this is heroin, this is what it look like. And that (over there) is what it does to you. See?"

My methods work. My kids know I smoke pot, and they make fun of it 'cause that's "old people stuff", just like when the adults get together and have a drink after dinner. I want my kids steeped in reality, not fairy tales and fables.

Anyway, that's my /rant. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pick on you, I apologize if it seemed I was. Being "boxed in" is one of my pet peeves in life, I was just reacting to some words on the screen.
