You know why? Because ALL murder in Japan is infinitesimal.

    From an article on japan

Unlike the U.S., Japan has strict gun laws. Most guns are illegal, and there are tight restrictions on purchasing the few firearms that are allowed in the country, according to The Atlantic. Japan also has a rigorous testing and background-check process for those who seek to purchase a gun.

To put it all into perspective, the U.S. saw more than 12,000 firearm-related homicides in 2008, while Japan had only 11.

Except they were just as rare before they were restricted. People don't use rifles to commit crime, ALL rifles account for about 3% after all.

The NFA was passed to try and combat the crime caused by Prohibition. The NFA didn't reduce crime, the abolishment of Prohibition reduced crime.

There is no evidence of this.

The fact is there were very few deaths by fullauto weapons before they were restricted.

It most certainly is. Deal with it

I lived in Japan for over 10 years, there's nothing you can tell me about Japan that I don't probably already know.

Violent crime itself is extremely low, because the Japanese are invested in the family and their honor in society.

Murder rate in Japan for ALL weapons is 0.3 per 100k. Practically non-existent.

There are no gun murders in Japan because they simply don't kill others with ANYTHING. The prohibition on gun ownership is mainly a throwback to WW2, and has nothing to do with their crime rate.

    Indeed. 0.3/100k total murder rate
Eliminate every gun in the US and our murder rate is still 5.5x higher
Somehow, to some people, this proves that gun control works.

Did you live all throughout europe? When they have gun deaths in the mid three digits they consider it a national crisis. We have over 30,000

That's because there's not really any records before the 1930's.

The St. Valentines Day Massacre is what lead to the end of prohibition, and the beginning of the NFA.

Besides, there is no evidence that guns cause crime, full-auto or not.

    From a report on Japan:

How did Japan get its own murder rate to be so low?

The country's homicide rate is associated with a stable and prosperous society with low inequality and high levels of development. Young Japanese males now commit only a tenth of the homicides committed by their predecessors in 1955, and the age and sex distribution of victims tend to be uniform across age groups. This has been attributed by some researchers to, amongst other factors, extremely low levels of gun ownership (1 in 175 households), a greater chance of detection (according to police data, 98 per cent of homicide cases are solved), the rejection of violence after the Second World War, the growth of affluence without the accompanying concentrations of poverty common in many highly developed countries, and the stigma of arrest for any crime in Japanese society.

Someones been listening to their favorite dictator.

We do not have 30,000 "gun deaths". We have 20k suicides in which guns were used, and we have 10k murders....the vast majority of which were done by the democrat voter base.

It has already been provided more than once on this thread you simply ignore it.

FBI uniform crime stats clearly show violent crime to include deaths by firearms has been declining for decades now.

On the other hand the number of firearms and firearm ownership has increased.

    Simple fact proving you wrong

2 thirds of gun deaths in the US are suicides yet Japan far outstrips us when murder and suicides are combined

The main reason is that criminal behavior in Japan is HEAVILY stigmatized. Family honor is everything to most Japanese, and a member of that family committing ANY crime brings shame to the entire family.

Japanese prison is also an experience no one would enjoy. If we adopted the Japanese prison system that would suddenly rehabilitate a lot of life long criminals.

    Certainly.
But here, we cannot condemn criminal behavior and the mindset/lifestyle that promotes it.

Perhaps you should read it again, and find other sources. For more guns have saved lives than took lives. Where is the stats on guns being used to save lives.

    If anything, it's ENCOURAGED here.

    - - - Updated - - -

Are you suggesting guns cause suicide, or that restriction of firearms prevents suicide, because that is an incredibly stupid argument.

    Especially in popular culture.
If the tenets of Japanese culture were prevalent here, our level of gun crime would be virtually the same as theirs.
