If you didn't want Medicare privatized, you probably shouldn't have given the GOP unified control of the federal government. Reap what you sow.

    Good luck!

Can your kids pay for heart transplants and cancer treatments?

Mine can't. In fact without Obamacare they can't even pay for their own health insurance

You want your children to be more dependent on government, this is progress?

This is an incredibly good question.

On a large scale we all, not just the US, depend more on centralized government than ever before. Honestly though the big changes came more than a hundred years ago with the industrialization of advanced countries.

I think a pretty good argument could be made that life is much better with strong governmental involvement. The main detractors from this argument would be its capability to engage in massive warfare, and its ability to infringe on individual rights. It's hard to see providing health care as being a bad thing when you look at it from a broad perspective.

Proper scope of government is a challenge of our time. Our constitution has protected us for 200+ years from totalitarian rule.

Not yet, and perhaps not ever. It's why we have insurance. You live a healthy life, eat your veggies, and get with a bunch of other people who pay into a general pool for the off-chance that somebody in that pool has something bad happen. It's we I have fire insurance for my house, and insurance for my car. The odds are that my house won't catch fire, but a neighbor's did a few years ago. These things happen, and that's why we have insurance.

That is how it's supposed to work. Obamacare doesn't work like that, which is why it was doomed from the start. Everybody knew it would fail because the business model is fatally flawed, but some people didn't care so long as it meant they would get insurance, and other people did because they knew it was going to cost more to have insurance until it died a natural death.

If your kids can't afford their own health insurance, that's not entirely their fault. It's our fault. We were supposed to hand them a safe country with a viable economy so we could retire on our front porches while they do all the work that we used to do when we were their age.

Guess who I blame for that failure?

Mhm, me too. I would prefer that free and fair market enterprise allow my children to compete and exchange their services for quality healthcare.

When my children's only route to healthcare is through the government, that's when real issues arise. You don't seem to relate the two.

And you want others to pay for it.
Shouldn't have put seed in the flower pot if you couldn't afford to take care of the blooms.

Do you have a better idea? I mean, one you can get your state or municipal governnment to get behind? It's not happening on the national level, so you might as well think locally.

Preferences are nice I suppose...but the reality is that before Obamacare my kids had no health insurance and now they do.

I live in the real world

I don't think I understand what you're saying. I think you're a young guy with plenty of years left to work but some day you'll be in the seat of an old person without medical care. What brilliant comment will you have to offer then?

Actually it is happening on the Federal and state level but a better alternative would be a Medicare buy in. But I'm sure you'd be against that because it would work, people would have healthcare and Medicare would be stronger

I'll always be against the federal government getting involved in things that don't involve the basic role of government, which is to secure the borders. Everything internal should be handled by local governments. That includes being against medicare buy ins.

The brilliant comment I will make then is that being old isn't for snowflakes, and that considering my profession, the only thing I have to worry about is tripping on the red carpet they roll out as I walk into the hospital.

Or I will end up like many of my forefathers and dying of old age without the luxury of nary a leech.

Yea...well you've already said you'd let people die rather than have the government get involved so...

Certainly, that's a joke, right? If it's not then it's extremely ignorant.

How could anyone consider your profession when one doesn't know what profession that might be, and even if we were aware of it, how would that be pertinent?
