Condoleezza Rice: NFL Players Must Voice Concerns Without 'Alienating' People

You say that "the US is heading in the very same direction", and you may be right, but not acknowledging the flag and anthem and what they represent is not going to put a stop to 'destruction' you mention. In fact, by not having a unifying symbol to remind people who they are and why they are standing might only hurry the process along.

No one paying respect to these symbols believes the country is perfect but through the ideals represented in those symbols the country can be made better, that any civilization is 'a work in progress'. But the US has come a long way in defining the human rights and freedoms now enjoyed by many other amnesiatic countries who complain about it, or offer their advice. Its people come from all over the world to live together in peace and, more than anywhere else, has done a great job of it. This uniting of people under a common flag, the 'e pluribus unum' as the national motto, is being lost. I can't see how that's a good thing.

 

If I want to see injustice in America.......it wouldn't be at an NFL stadium where a bunch of very rich spoiled jocks and their very rich team owners charge $200 for a seat and $10 for a beer. I like football......I don't like the NFL business. I hope the league fails........stop supporting these idiots.........these pukes are not hero's.

One thing I heard on the radio the other day is that the most effective way to stop the hate speakers would be to have nobody come to hear them and I had to think that was totally right. but then it occurred to me. Somebody WOULD go to hear them, and then maybe go out from there and start to find minority students and beat them up. The threat these people pose to lots of people is EXISTENTIAL and that's not in a philosophic sense at all, it's a threat to their EXISTENCE, their very being. I don't disagree with the SCOTUS very much, (well actually I do, a lot, but I try not to argue) but here i just can't see their ruling at all. Someone's coming to my campus/town and he's going to say how me and mine should be killed, and not for anything we've done but just for who we are? and I have to let him because he's not saying any names but just saying the group I'm part of should ALL die, man, woman and child, all introduced to Mr Death, cut us if we stand and shoot us if we run?? I'm sorry, but BULL intercoursing FECES thank you, Homey don't PLAY that game.

There is already a precipitate rise in hate crimes on Campus and the animosity IS being directed at Jewish, Muslim, Mexicans, minorities etc. Two hours may not turn lifelong politics but 3-4 guys out from a frat party confronting one poor yamulka-wearing Jew late at night is something else again.
