No matter how you cut it, what happened to this man is tragic and up until recently, I felt there was a broad consensus that the officer involved should face serious criminal charges. Even people who are usually willing to believe the officer's version no matter what were forced to concede that this officer was at fault --- but now, I think they may have a way to blame the dead guy on this one.

According to Dallas officer Amber Guyger, she issued verbal commands to the deceased and he wouldn't comply with her commands, so she was forced to shoot him. In other words, she is trotting out the old "the scary black man wouldn't comply so I shot him" defense. This is a pretty good defense because there are many times where "suspects" don't comply and in turn the officer fears for their safety and shots have to be fired -- but this man was not a suspect, he was in his own home, she was the one breaking and entering.

Unfortunately, after some time has passed and the attention is not as focused, I can very well see this excuse paying off and this woman facing no serious time. What say you?

She was in the wrong no matter the circumstances and should face prison time. She is the cause of all of the situation, no matter if it was a mistake.

The search warrant turned up some interesting items that a cop would use...It almost looks like a lover's quarrel turned deadly...(spoken in a deep menacing male voice.)

So if I come into your home unlawfully why in the hell do I have to follow any damn thing you are saying. Your premise is asinine at best.

It's a crazy idea, but it just may work -- I put nothing past what police officers are able to get away with.

I guess they think the mass populace is a dumb as they are to believe their whole excuse...The victim's apt.search warrant was publicized, the officer's apt search warrant kept secret. Yeah

    Thanks for the update.

I do not believe she (the officer) can hang her hat on that in HIS home.

So she will hang in criminal (and civil) court.

    Agreed.

And, in unrelated news, the entire board (upstairs, downstairs, etc.) over at the "other place" has been down for most of the past 24 hours....funny stuff!

Nothing but a lame excuse of entering the wrong apartment on the wrong floor saying the door was ajar, everyone knows a door is not a jar.

The investigation may lead to a more serious charge than manslaughter..

Another tragic aspect of this event is the victim apparently was able to leave the poverty and relative high unemployment of St. Lucia to come to America, attend and graduate university and land a job at a fairly decent professional services firm (PwC). An immigrant living (lived?) the American dream only to be gunned down in cold blood in his own home. That just sucks.

She's been arrested for manslaughter, and I think it's a good bet that gets upgraded to murder. Her story is implausible.

She effectively broke into a mans apartment and shot him.

She is at fault. Period. End of story.

Absolutely. But throwing in your own racism like the OP's article author did is not factual evidence.

I live in Dallas....and yes, she is trying to blame the deceased for his own death

    From the article:

"Guyger drew her handgun, gave verbal commands that were ignored and fired her weapon twice, striking 26-year-old Botham Jean once in the torso"

Is the CBS local news station racist too?

Because I have a gun. Now you can then sue the bajeezus out of me once it is apparent that I made a stupendous mistake. But when a UNIFORMED cop enters your home with a gun, just comply and know that you have options once the situation has calmed down.

How would he know she was a cop if it was as dark as she claimed it was? Had he had a weapon and fired at her first (which is his right) -- do you think they would be treating it as an accident?
