Trump Tweet: "Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee are wasting their time," Trump said that "Democrats, despite all of the evidence, proof and Caravans coming, are not going to give money to build the DESPERATELY needed WALL."

He's probably right. He could take much of the politics out of the equation by allowing states or even municipalities to privately fund a wall project with municipal bonds. On government land, revenue bonds could be issued. It would be no different than building a toll road. In fact it could include one running parallel to the wall.

My preference would be to build the wall on the Mexican side of the boarder. We should not cede the Rio Grande to Mexico.

Wouldn't that be a bit extreme. Would you advocate killing or threatening thousands of lives with lack of water if they do not help us with immigration policy. How would that make us look on the world stage?

Obama actually mentioned something about adding alligators. I like that idea and also Piranha.

Back to the idea of private funding, It's not really a new idea. Almost anything the government does private industry can do less expensively and faster.

Locating the wall on the Mexican side may actually be easier than trying to work with US dem politicians.

    Trump Moves:

    (1) Republican team of lawyers together waiting at the 5th Circuit.
    (2) Declare it an Emergency Power Act - Fund the Wall with Department of Defense dollars.
    (3) Seconds after the declaration, have the lawyers file the lawsuit against the wall in the friendlier court.
    (4) Court upholds President
    (5) Supremes uphold President

    Done.

If they want the water, then help us.

I don't care, is the world stage compensating us for all the illegals? If not let them pound sand.

He's right. Democrats aren't interested in compromise. It's time for him to act unilaterally.

So your legal strategy is to have Republican lawyers file a lawsuit against the national security declaration in a court that is friendlier to Republicans?

You want a war with your closest neighbor and to be sanctioned by the international community as well as **** over millions of US citizens?

Because that's how you get a war with your closest neighbor and sanctioned by the international community and **** over millions of US citizens.

A National Security Crisis always has an arbitrary date on the calendar for when they require executive action.

Sounds like it... And although it's just '5 easy steps', that's 12-14 months of activity I suspect... By that time, every Republican lawyer in the country will have better things to try and defend Trump on...

I am amazed you don't see that tactic as being totally evil. We may vote for the same party but our beliefs vastly differ.

Much worst than advocating a wall. Not even close.

You got it. - The courts won’t stop Trump’s emergency declaration or his border wall

The Supreme Court has never overturned a national emergency declaration, even in cases less dire than the situation at the southern border.

He can also ask the supreme court to expedite and hear any stay as an emergency.

I literally just said war, international sanctions, and ****ing over millions of US citizens is what "they" are going to do about it.

First of all, you have no jurisdiction on the "other side" of the Rio Grande. Mexico is not your country.

This wall of fear is not popular in any of the border states, so it's very unlikely that any of them are going to waste their money on a monument to Trump or the reactionary angry white need for a security blanket.

But since Trump is undermining his own party leaders (again), and dismissing the negotiations, I suppose he's prepared to own the next shutdown as well.

So you want a pack of lawyers to intentionally file a lawsuit they don't intend to defend and in fact vehemently disagree with the principles of?

Each of those lawyers would be disbarred.

you left out the thousands of land owners that would take trump to court, individually. If trump declared an emergency he would be tied up in court for years. The wall would not get built, and he would be out of office by the time litigation could end and the next dem president will reverse his action.

    Simple.

The needed land could be lease or donated by Mexico as a goodwill gesture. It is really no different than having a military base in a friendly country.
