Given how little this thing -- https://www.gofundme.com/thetrumpwall -- has raised so far, do you really think the border states' residents would go for that? Or be able to afford it?

The stupid wall would be even more resoundly defeated at that state and local levels than it is now at the national level.

Why didn't the Intel Community during their security briefing list the Southern Border as a threat.

Pelosi made it clear this afternoon that Trump is right.

    So we're heading for

    A) Another shutdown
    B) An emergency declaration
    C) All of the above

My money's on (C) and the Patriots to win the Super Bowl...

Bonds are not donations. Yes it could be viable especially if it included a toll road and possibly integrated communications and power lines.

OK. Well, take it up with local government, then. Don't be surprised if it goes nowhere.

I'm getting a little tired of watching New England win but would rather see them win than Kroenke or his Rams

From what I've seen, they want better border security through improvements in monitoring, even improved fencing where appropriate. Basically, effective and cost-effective measures where they are needed. Not a big, dumb wall.

I'm totally sick of the Patriots, but their O-Line has been manhandling opposing defenses lately. If Goff & Co. don't light up the scoreboard they're going down.

Double fencing with concertina wire and with monitors might be okay in some areas but the patrols would be only minutes away, the same as police, just not fast enough. A more substantial barrier is needed in several areas to slow intruders down. They will never be stopped by any passive means.

But even as it is now, most illegals don't sneak across the border on foot, nor are drugs brought in that way.

They want open borders, sanctuary cities, abolishing ICE and amnesty. They're cool with Undocumented Democrats voting, too...

We very likely are going to end up with another trump shut down. What we know for certain is trump will not be getting his wall. The American people don't want it. Congress doesn't want to vote for it. Neither democrats or republicans. And if he declares an emergency, he still won't get his wall. He will be tied up in court until after he's booted out of office in January of 2021.

Previous eminent domain attempts along the Texas border have led to more than a decade of court battles, some of which date to George W. Bush’s administration and have yet to be resolved. Many landowners, like Alvarez, are vowing to fight anew.

Hate to tell you this fella, but even if every rancher on the border fought it (and they're not) that wouldn't come close to speaking for the majority population of the state.
Additionally: Infrastructure construction is a perfectly valid use of eminent domain. That's not even getting into the modern eminent domain jurisprudence like Kelo which allows public takings for PRIVATE USE that never actually made IE a bunch of land was taken for a phrama corp that makes boner pills to do a big construction and development project and they never even went through with it. But SCOTUS held the taking to be perfectly valid. TO BUILD A FACILITY TO MAKE BONER PILLS WITH and a nice plaza for the employees of said facility. You're not going to win an ED fight with the .gov trying to build nat sec infrastructure.

Neither Trump (not Trumpies) are very good at actually realizing the nuance of the ridiculously absurd things that they are proposing.

I also believe that any court challenge to a presidential emergency declaration would be hear right away by the courts, not spend years in litigation and they could issue a blanket ruling which would apply to anyone else thinking of suing.

So there would only have to be one case, not every landowner would be able to sue.

That is a broad and general statement that not even boarder agents seem to be able to answer with accuracy. There is currently pedestrian type fencing, areas that have only vehicle barriers and mountainous areas where no fencing exists. Most of the illegals are OTM, (other than Mexican). They are mainly from central America. This report from Bloomberg is worth reading. According to their data there was 396,597 boarder apprehensions in 2018.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/trump-mexico-wall/

Another report from Fox has this to say:

Hours before the sun rises above the horizon, Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas, are examining the streets to track down illegal immigrants attempting to cross what is the most heavily trafficked area along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Just minutes into the first hour of their shift, one agent gets a notification on his radio that multiple groups of illegal immigrants can be seen through infrared scanners. The agents hop out of their vans and cross a pair of train tracks into a wet, dewy field, where they find three illegal immigrants hiding in the bushes – one with an injured foot.

The agents pull these immigrants to the side of the road for questioning before they are taken in for processing. What complicates the matter is that U.S. officials say detention centers and holding facilities are at capacity, so many of the illegals seen being arrested will be released -- there is just nowhere for them to go.

This pattern continued hour after hour as different groups were continually captured, with dozens of illegals being arrested before 9 a.m. During a 12-hour shift in the Rio Grande Valley sector, a Fox News team witnessed more than 75 apprehensions by these Border Patrol agents – mostly groups of men in the morning followed by more families in the afternoon.

Raul Ortiz, who is the deputy chief of Border Patrol agents, called this business as usual -- agents are averaging up to 641 arrests every day.

In this area of Texas, the illegals seem to be crossing by foot. Drug trafficking and apprehension seems to be more at boarder crossing points.

Good, then we can push our border to the far side of the Rio Grande and build the wall there.

Your belief is inaccurate. Every person whose land is being seized under eminent domain would have the right to bring a lawsuit and challenge the seizure and/or the compensation being offered.

I didn't say I want to, but if they are going to declare war on us, lets get something out of it.

    lol

That's not how eminent domain works. Any land owner who was implicated would have standing both to challenge the emergency declaration and to protest the amount of the taking.

How would you get Mexico to comply with halting the mass migration through their country? I'm open to ideas.
