Question for you because you seem informed on this topic, does the fact the flu season is almost over help? Or does it not matter?

Those are the type to panic easily, and that does no one any good imo.

I see your point that he should've been more forthright but from my perspective to do so would hurt more than help.

Liberals: Trump is a dummy, he's downplaying the whole thing!!!!!!!

Trump: Declares national emergency and martial law.

Liberals: Trump is a dummy, he's exaggerating the whole thing!!!!!!!

Hypocrisy and contradiction on the left never cease to amaze.

Telling the truth would have not caused anyone to panic. People should know know what's going on. They deserve the truth from their leaders - especially the ones that look to trump for guidance on situations such as this (god help them). It's the difference between an effective leader and whatever trump is.

How to calculate the mortality rate during an outbreak

    https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/162/5/479/82647

    It's the (t) thingy.

    CFR = deaths at day.x / cases at day.x-{T}
(where T = average time period from case confirmation to death)

Giving people information that they can't change or fix is not helpful imo

We probably just have different perspective on it and that's ok

I know Obama would have panicked everyone by now and what Schirmer and Pelosi are attempting to do, that's lying. It's just not Trump's style and not what any good president would do.

The problem is that there ARE factors that people can control so the information is most certainly helpful.
Food storage, water supply, generator fuel, medication supply - general disaster preparedness. We should all have these things on hand anyway. Maybe having the POTUS speak truthfully on the matter might spur some people into protecting their families. Just in case.

That is not known definitively. But most likely it will help. We're only 25 days from the vernal equinox and the ground here (Biloxi) is getting warmer and the grass is greening up. The season of colds, crud, and flu is coming to an end.

In 2014, Trump called Obama a "psycho" because he did not immediately cancel flights into the United States due to an Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

    That's my thought

Apparently the Spanish flu was active during the summer but I wonder how much of that was caused by WW1? Spanish flu also affected young adults more that also makes me wonder what effect WW1 played on those numbers

Do you want to be scared?? I happened across a news item that said Coronavirus can cause a re-infection which is deadlier than the first infection.

Whistleblower doctors say coronavirus reinfection even deadlier

No confirmation of that. This is why I'm avoiding most of the news on Coronavirus and especially opinion pieces. They're just scaring everyone.

You can get pretty dilapidated and weak in war, military or civilian, when you're wet, cold, hungry, dirty, trench-footed, crotch-rotted, and your clothes or uniform is rotting off you.

Well, if killing out of the enemy was the point, it hasn't work very well, has it? Aside from deaths and losses and a trillion dollars and losses SO FAR, the USA has had to irradiate our mail and have our troops get the risks of not very reliable vaccines against livestock germs for the last 10 years.

Not an impressive record! Like a gun that kills the shooter first!

The USA has been weak-willed for a long time. Really since 1948.

liberals... Y'all gotta make everything about Trump and politicize it. He wouldn't win or get a pat on the back from y'all no matter what road he took or takes, so honestly who really cares what y'all think?

If you think you're gonna die from CV then go get in a bunker until it goes away. Otherwise shut up and deal with life like the rest of us are doing. Democrats wouldn't be out campaigning in every state and Trump wouldn't be out campaigning in every state if it was as serious as y'all claim it is.

While not perfect, we’re still the best country in the world, by far.

It isn't known, but it is plausible that the conditions which cause the flu to fizzle in April will also affect covid-19. Both spread primarily by respiratory droplets in the air, and this spread becomes less effective after approximately March. But covid-19 may survive longer on surfaces, and not much is known since it seems very distinct from prior coronaviruses.

The spanish flu actually became noticeable around march 1918 but saw its biggest surge in the following fall. So even if covid 19 is inhibited by summer, that does not mean it will go away if it is.

Well it's not a big deal what he said but there are a lot of more useful things he could have said and I wouldn't necessarily expect him to have a sophisticated understanding of this issue. He probably fired his real experts for not being loyal
