Why do some Conservatives want the right to discriminate???

Unfortunately, people will not change their attitudes or behavior on their own. So putting into law anti discrimination policies is necessary. We can only hope that our future generations will not follow in our footsteps and those of our forefathers. And I have to say that I do have a fair bit of hope when I look at the tolerance of people in their teens/20s/30s today. They are, mostly, color blind and they don't have issues with LGBTQ communities.

 

Why don't you ask this question to your lefty buddies who won't serve people in a starbucks because they don't like their maga hat. Also while you're at it, ask them why everything is about race to them? A lefty walks into a room and see's 16 whites and 4 blacks and conservatives walk into a room and see 20 PEOPLE. Its YOU guys that have the discrimination issues, not us.

I think it's really sad how conservatives on one hand say people should be judged by their merits and their education and their achievements...... And yet a minute later will say we should have the right to discriminate against people in employment, housing,and education, and services because we don't like black people or gay people or Muslims

TBH I have a much bigger issue with a person's ideology than anything else. I believe it should be lawful for conservatives to exclude liberals from moving into their community. Freedom of association is in the Constitution. The most invidious attack on conservatives is liberals streaming into their communities. We have watched what happens in your neighborhoods all across the country and we want no part of it. Your values are evil and despicable to us..... as our values are evil and despicable to you. Physical separation is the rational option. Leave us alone AND STAY OUT.

And so we should. However, many things that one person may find "immoral" are not "illegal." Nor should they be. You will never be able to legislate all human conduct. Besides, opinions abound regarding the standard for behavior that is immoral or just not very nice.

Can you post what conservative you actually heard say this? This has been against the law almost forever (I would bet longer than you have been alive), and, as far I know, no one is attempting to change that law. Are you just trying to trap posters and start an argument where none existed?

meanwhile it is STILL legal under Federal law, to discriminate against people based on gender and sexuality, when it comes to public accommodations.

 

Personally, if I own a business, I should have the right to hire who I want to. Potential employees have the right to either work or not work for me. I don't force them and they do not force me. Just like they have the right not to work for me, I should have the right not to have them work for me.

I should not have to do anything in my business which violates my personal religion or ethics. That means I should not have to produce or sell products contrary to my religion or ethics. Customers also have the right not to purchase items from me. They are completely free to go elsewhere.

It seems like this is completely in line with liberal ideas. If I want to sell illegal drugs, I can sell illegal drugs. Likewise, If I choose to sell my body, I should be able to sell my body, Customers are free to not buy or to buy what I sell.

 

sorry, but you benefit from many services paid for by ALL taxpayers.

if we have to pay for services that you benefit from, WE get to tell you you cannot discriminate.
