What would it take to remove a statute of Columbus? From what I've seen a rope and a bunch of dummies. How hard would it be to get that? I'd say just about anyone could

Now what would it take to remove mount Rushmore? TNT and heavy machinery

Not just anyone would have access to that right?

Then you go wouldn't the people removing statutes start small then work their way up?

Sometimes faux patriotic displays bother me, particularly when it is particularly contrived.

For instance, I would been impressed by the President had even bothered to glance at intelligence briefings that had indicated that US troops were being payed by enemies up to $100,000 in rewards for killing our Troop.

Trump is well aware the concept, having claimed it one of the reasons the USA abrogated a nuclear arms agreement with Iran, and threatened to go to war.

Trump doesn't care, his and the Trumpies" "patriotism" is "Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

    Lets re read the article...
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 75% of Likely U.S. Voters do not believe that Mount Rushmore should be closed or changed because two of the four presidents it honors – George Washington and Thomas Jefferson - were slave owners. Seventeen percent (17%) believe the iconic memorial in South Dakota should be closed or changed. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

But this compares to 90% who opposed closing or changing Mount Rushmore when Rasmussen Reports first asked this question three years ago.

Similarly, 71% still oppose removing the names of the early presidents like Washington and Jefferson who were slave owners from public places and taking down statues in their honor. Eighteen percent (18%) favor such moves. However, this compares to 88% and seven percent (7%) respectively in 2017.

The most notable change on both questions is among voters under 40. One-third (33%) of these younger voters are now ready to close or change Mount Rushmore and remove the names and statues of the early presidents who were slave owners. Roughly 10% of older voters agree in both cases.

Only 10% of all voters believe it is better to erase the wrongs of the past. Eighty-four percent (84%) disagree and say it is better to try to learn from them. But that’s down 10 points from the earlier survey.

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it's in the news, it's in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted June 29-30, 2020 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Americans strongly reject the call by a leading Black Lives Matter activist to remove “white Jesus” from churches and elsewhere. His message resonates far stronger among black Americans than others.

Blacks and other minority voters are far more supportive than whites of changing Mount Rushmore and removing the names and statues of early presidents who were slave owners. But most voters in all three groups oppose such actions, with sizable majorities who agree that it’s better to try to learn from the wrongs of the past.

Twenty percent (20%) of voters under 40 say it is better to erase the wrongs of the past. Roughly five percent (5%) of their elders agree.

Twenty-eight percent (28%) of Democrats want to close or change Mount Rushmore, a view shared by just nine percent (9%) of Republicans and 12% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democrats by a similar margin are more enthusiastic about removing the names and statues of the early presidents who were slave owners.

Democrats (77%) are only slightly less likely than Republicans (89%) and unaffiliated voters (87%), though, to agree that it is better to try to learn from the wrongs of the past rather than erase them.

Again, you seem to think people may want to remove Rushmore and then stop and reflect, and think of how it would be difficult and require resources-so they don't support it.

That's not the case, and only a minority support it.

The modern narrative about say Columbus-is that he was a racist colonist-but in reality the STATUES in the US (the US was commonly known as Columbia, btw-in the same way you would call it America or the US), is because racist democrats in the KKK.

Allow me to explain-for many decades-southern Europeans were discriminated against in the US. For being Catholic (which the KKK hated more than blacks), and for not being as light skinned as previous dems.

The statues of Columbus were not just celebrations of the discovery of the new world, but also of victory over the dems KKK, which were the militant arm of the party not unlike Antifa/BLM these days.

I know that a group of 100 people couldn't do it if they tried.........

A government decision could I suppose but the government doesnt seem to for that per your poll.

    Let's worry about realistic things

    Oh, yeah!

There are few white conservative Christians that have the integrity of their beliefs admit their "Savior" was not white!

Or Santa Claus was not white, either!

The only things this Mount Rushmore thing signifies is what we already know about Trump; that he thinks he is bigger than life.
Possibly hoping to have his face carved in a mountain..
But failing that have a monument erected for himself in his patriotic park. Possibly the size of the Lincoln Memorial?

When this thread started I wonder how many of the left would even bother to post. Trump will be Trump and for my left minded friends, he trolled all of you to the max. It's his thing boys and girls and waiting until the end of his speech announcing he signed an executive order creating a park filled with great Americans was nothing more than a slap in the face of the Antifa crowd who get all spun up over metal figures covered in pigeon poop that scare them.
    Trump loves Trump
    Trump loves America
Trump loves crowds that love Trump
    Trump loves more Trump
Trump loves to shove a finger in the eyes of those who have spent 3-/12 years trying to undermine him.
Go home and deal with it.

Thank you for starting this thread. Reading through it this morning was a hoot. I never thought I would see the day when Trump haters could not even take one hour to honor this great country without slow scanning videos searching for any black people or were there any masks in the crowd. As I put out our flags this morning I looked up at a beautiful sunrise and thanked God for being fortunate enough to live in this country.
I do give a bit of credit to MSNBS because following the speech they left the live fireworks display on half screen while the other half were groups of three complaining about how flawed it was. The mute button quickly solved that problem.

Using July 4th celebrations to troll the political opposition. How very presidential. Shouldn't July 4th be a holiday for ALL Americans? Trump acts like he and his fan base own it.

BTW: Did he mention the 125,000 Americans who lost their lives in the last 4 months? Oh, I guess that doesn't fit with his reckless re-opening agenda.

I watched and listened. And I was shocked. I will admit, yes, I am no fan of the man, but he went out of his way to speak to his base and no one else. While, perhaps, you were cheering, people who have left leaning politics were ridiculed and vilified. By an American president on a broadcast for the ENTIRE nation's holiday. This wasn't supposed to be a campaign speech, but it turned into one. Saying that children were being indoctrinated and calling us 'violent' and 'radical' is not what we look to in a 4th celebration speech.

I am not a radical or rabid socialist. I just have different views than the President and his party. But last night I heard that I am, basically, pond scum. So, while Trump's base enjoyed a rousing speech from their leader, the other half of the country were disgusted. Not at all what the 4th is supposed to be all about. Leave that for the rallies - the 4th is supposed to be for the WHOLE country...not just Trump followers.

No, but he did mention to thank the countless medical personnel who are fighting to kill the virus, To me, the "trolling" part was a bonus. It was first and foremost a declaration that we Americans will not be bullied, intimidated, or threatened into either voting differently, behaving differently or to allow public property works to be defaced, all because of to paraphrase Omar: Some people, did some things a long time ago, that a lot of us wouldn't do today.

We will not be intimidated by the violent attackers who masquerade as anti-fa or "blm" in this country. We will continue to live freely and independently, as this country's founding enshrined us to do.

Ho hum. Another version of the nonsensical narrative the Democratic Party in 2020 is the same racist party it was 150 years ago.

Well said. The July 4th speech that trump gave is his most recent example of his belief that appealing solely to his base is the most viable path forward.

That is not a strategy which serves America or the Republican Party.

Trolling somebody is assuming that they hate what you are addressing, last night, that being the greatness that is America. If you hate America and are afraid of statues, that crowd got a belly full of troll talk last night. The rest of us deplorables just sat back clutching out bibles and fondling our Ruger Flat Tops in 45 Colt.
