And they probably (or should have) done the same thing with math, english, social studies....

ok roman times so you can also just forget about gravity , magnetism, geological sciences, health sciences, and other things that were just "drilled" into your head and try and live your life with out them. lol

Creationism , and ID have NO place in a educational classroom as they are based on fictious literature with ZERO independt supportive evidence.

Evolutionary theory is selected, among a long list of widely accepted scientific theories to be false because it does not jive with the Bible. Different theories of geology ( plate techtonics, earth structure) for example are not as fully observable as other widely accepted theories within given scientific disciplines , yet they do not recieve harsh outright denial (not skepticism, scientist apply real skepticism by testing the theory through experimentation). Why is this? The Bible more or less states indirectly that the earth is only a few thousand years old. Yet geology shows this couldn't be farther from the truth. I believe that creationists attack evolution because it has much more tangible and human reprocussions then those proposed by geology.

I did not say they should be taught in school, Sir. Why the hostile attack?

I'm not living without the other things that they taught me.

It's just evolution seems far fetched on some points. Specifically how animals evolved out of a pile of goop. I'm not say its impossible, just that it seems as stretched as some of the whack-a-job Christian stories in the bible.

If you do not agree, that is fine, I simply saying that I'm not sold on it..

Thank you, and as always, have a great day.

Well, that may be why you think it's far fetched if you think that's what evolution says.

ok romantimes my apologies on the tone of my response.

i dont know your interest in things of this nature but some textbooks are really good interesting reads. unfortunatly it is vastly complicated in terms of interdiscipline connections , but when viewed as a whole it makes a whole lot more sense then just a pile of goo. maybe your interested - maybe your not i could reference some really good websites, books , vids if you are though

Life came from single cell organisms that eventually evolved into us, or had I missed something?

your public library probablly has a huge supply of text books on biology which would be a good place to start but honestly to jump into the subject vids work great topdocumentaryfilms.com has a massive library of education vids among other things. A little discretion is importent when choosing though the tabs on the side indicate lists by subject. Carl Sagan has a few really good pieces of literature that touches on the subject for perspective

Also if you live by a mid sized to large university its easy as pie to sneak into the back of massive lectures and just listen i did it for a while before actually enrolling lol

Okay, I was just making sure that you didn't think that somehow we just crawled out of a pile of goo as we are. Some people actually believe that.

    Here comes another FAIL...

Do you think that those finches are unable to breed if introduced? Please show us all that the breeds are unable to produce offspring please..

Do you even know if they have fossils of the cartoon drawings? Do you even know anything Grasping you blind worshipper?!?!

Show me the fossils they found of all those creatures (full fossils) and I will change my Avatar and screen name to whatever you want!! And if there are not full fossils, how can you draw up a WHOLE creature out of a three leg bones, a lower jaw and some ribs... and they say it had webbed feet.

    Keep believing your preachers... :)

Done the "SAME"...? I question that... I think that is so horrible. They should have NOT done that - but teach genetics, microbiology and so forth that is proven fact instead of throwing in hypothetical believe systems that are only around to disprove God.

Teach that which is - instead of that which might be!

Read the paper for yourself you nitwit. As if this is the only speciation event we have ever witnessed, anyways

In person, no I have not seen them, but I also have no seen Pluto either. Must mean Pluto doesn't exist! I'm a blind Pluto worshiper. What a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing stupid ass argument.

    http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/mammal/cetacea/cetacean.html

Berkeley page with pictures of the some of the skulls. I mean, there is a whole pile of evidence for cetacean evolution. But no, you attack the illustrations by pejoratively calling them "cartoons" because you're too (*)(*)(*)(*) dumb to understand what an illustration is. Atoms must not exist because all we have are "cartoons" (illustrations) in our textbooks! It's a way to explain a concept simply. Apparently simple is too complex for you, though.

    Keep being retarded.

It is a proven fact that DNA is the code of life.

It is a proven fact that genes mutate.

You do not want schools to teach biology...you want them to teach religion...your religion. That is a shame and a discrace.

Biology is not a belief system...it is the scientific study of life, and when someone proves a theory or system wrong it will change.

They teach evolution as a theory...the best one they have...backed by evidence.

Not...God did it and thats it.

I concur, never said nor posted anything otherwise...

I concur, never said nor posted anything otherwise...

Teach my religion? What and where the hell did this come from? Okay - I'll bite... What religion is that Pctr?

I agree with biology being a belief system, but I thought we were talking about evolution not all of biology?

There is no evidence of evolution except someone's pipe dream off of opium... If there is evidence of common descent. But, I will give you the benefit of the conversation. Please let us know what experiment you choose and then give us the "rate of change" of the creation of a new species that cannot produce a viable offspring. The mutation that created it within the species and "if" there were trends in the process, what were they?

Pretty basic questions that should be answered if evolution has evidence of having any significance within the science world. If it is going to be studied - what are the trends? Do the conditions within a lab scenario differ from that within the wild and if they do, how so?

Why are you trailing off talking about God instead of the subject matter which is science not God...?

    Grasping - Keep being retarded.

I will ask again - no... we already see asking you for anything ends up horribly!

I will state this. What you are being led to believe is a fossil will be found of a head and some rib bones and they come up with the thing had webbed feet.

I suggest instead of believing in Bugs Bunny and Roger Rabbit you believe in things that you can see! If you can't "SEE" it had web feet do not assume that it did.

If you want to believe that? Well... Keep being retarded.

So, from now on - which we the people reading already know - unless you can back up your science with fossils that show exactly what you are saying then we will assume you are lying. Thus, what I am going to need from you is evidence of a mammal that lived on land with a blow hole or something to that effect that can be seen!!!

Why argue with someone so entrenched in their views? The fossils are there, I'm sorry you believe in conspiracies so much that you think illustrations and put together fossils are fraud without so much as having an argument for them being so.

So we can agree that evolution is a hypothesis? This is pretty much indisputable so we'll move one.

Has there been attempts to disprove the theory that were unsuccessful? Well we know this to be a fact as well.

I don't think the question is stated appropriately as: "Did evolution happen?"
The better question would be "Is evolution the best, testable hypothesis we have for the existence of life on this planet?"

The best evidence for this hypothesis is DNA, how very similar we are at the molecular level and how certain traits are inherited each generation and the mutations that occur at this molecular level are responsible for the adaptations that creatures all over the planet have made.

I'm open to alternatives if you can present a better one, but simply saying that "evolution is wrong" without offering an alternative to it is quite possibly the least interesting dialog imaginable. You have no point to defend and can be contrary without a counterpoint.

I will agree that it's a hypothesis, and it being a hypothesis disproves it being a theory.

I love what you just posted! Brilliant. My answer is I do not have an alternative. I have been asked this before. All I am saying is the suggestion of it being the "best" alternative to life doesn't make it so, that this is indeed what happened. If we don't know nor have evidence of a dung beetle, a tree and pond scum all have one distant relative it should be stated as such. We "believe" that this "could have" occurred in the past - instead of people saying it's fact. Which it is not.

For those that do look at evolution as fact are misinformed as to why it's only a hypothesis and not a theory, and thus rely on "faith" just as Christian's do that what they were told is indeed truth.

I know your memory is flawed Grasping so I will be more than happy to enlighten you once again.

You gave a link long ago from Wiki that had a list of "Missing Link's"... I tore it apart for the same reason as I just posted dealing with your other cartoon figures...

So, here it is again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transitional_fossils

Now what I want you to do is click on some of the "cartoon" drawing and then post the link of the "complete" fossil for us to view!

    Have fun!!

I've never seen the fossils. They draw pictures of what they think the animal looked like basing the whole animal off of a tiny speck of a bone fragment.

Think about it: Have you actually seen the fossils? You haven't.

DBM is making some seriously good points here, folks. Stop blasting him and refute his points specifically if you can.

    I don't think you can.

Atheists are comfortable believing science has figured it all out. When DBM starts to take apart the theory, they lose that comfort and attack him.

Some of you know I am a nihilist and I don't give a crap about anything. So I have no agenda here.

But I am dead serious when I tell you atheists that you sound JUST LIKE religious folks when you respond to DBM.

At the very least, the guy is highly educated about biology. When you can't even give him that, it costs you your credibility.

I bought evolution hook, line, and sinker and probably called DBM names in some of the earlier Is A Joke threads.

But when you actually read what he has to say, the guy makes some excellent points.

ATHEISTS, know how good it feels to be so much smarter than all the religious folks? Well just imagine how good it feels to be so much smarter than the religious folks AND the scientific folks by figuring out that evolution is a bunch of crap.

SAY IT WITH ME: "WE DON'T KNOW CRAP!"

Doesn't really make you smarter, I don't reckon, but it does make you honest.

This is factually incorrect. A theory is a hypothesis that is empirically supported by evidence contributed via the scientific method. Hypothesis and theories are not mutually exclusive. After all, gravity is still a theory and a hypothesis.

Thank you for the kind words. However, I've already state the disagreement with the false dichotomy that you've created. Additionally, faith is reserved for those beliefs which are unable to be falsified via the scientific method. Faith in a supreme being is one such belief that is unable to be falsified, evolution on the other hand doesn't suffer from this, it's open to be falsified and I encourage those that don't think evolution is real to find those alternatives.

We have evidence to support this theory, as stated, the basic building blocks of life are consistent throughout every single organism on the planet, quite the phenomenal and difficult to explain coincidence for those that oppose evolution.

A lot of them are pictures of fossils. Here is one example of the fossil that correlates with the illustration.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocampus_slovenicus

    http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/05/photogalleries/seahorse-fossils/photo3.html

Some of the fossils I'm sure aren't photographed and posted online. CONSPIRACY!
