The first page deals with incest and rape; while it's not like she didn't know about how that stuff exists; I don't think reading a book about it is the best thing ever. Especially when the character experiences sexual confusions and spurts of homosexuality because of it.

I really don't see the purpose behind that book as a part of any curricula. For any theme or reason, there's more than 10 much better and less controversial books.
