‘Acts of Hatred and Violence: 14-Year-Old White Boy Tries to Drown Black Boy in Massachusetts Pond

Yes they should be charged, they should not have tried to drown him. Many people are blaming the parents but children get information from many sources especially now with the internet. Who do you think is responsible:

 

It is likely the parents created a monster.

 

Likely so. However I’m glad they are charging the child. We can not and should not hold parent’s criminally responsible for actions they were not around to control.

 

Of course the perpetrator should be punished.

But I predict they will likely send the boy to prison for an additional 4 years longer than they otherwise would have, because the boy name-called the victim "George Floyd". (That combined with the perpetrator being racially white and the victim being black)

It's absurd, but likely to happen.

 

The awful mix of politics and adolescence. Unless one is particularly mature, level-headed and raised right I don't think that mix should happen. Unfortunately, I can't speak fondly of my generation becoming parents. We weren't really in a stable situation ourselves.

Kids raising kids. Smh.

 

I'd bet money both of those kids grew up in fatherless homes.

 

You really need to ask who is responsible for someone trying to drown someone else.

 

FYI, good parents can have bad children and vice versa, it is not absolute, and many parents may not be perfect either. Why this child chose to take a dark path is something to be reviewed instead making rushed judgments.

the defendant is 14 years old, and in all likelihood, probably won't be charged as an adult. Second, with two teenagers, they probably had a beef with each other and this is what it led up to. Yes, calling the victim a racial slur may indicate a hate crime, but in the end, we have not seen the full details of why this happened. Does not excuse it, but there are several possibilities. If it is true hatred type of a crime, then the kid learned it somewhere, probably one or both parents, the grandparents if he has them, or groups he has associated online with. But it did come from somewhere.

 

I've traveled this country throughout my life and the most openly racist places are all in the NE and all are blue states.

 

We can all only speculate. Hatred is alive and well in this world. We see it every day here and in the news. IMO, people are not born with hatred in their hearts. It is learned. The news divides us all more and more and the children are all watching and learning.

You can say all that, but it's rather likely the parents either know about it or it's their own culture that they passed on. I can almost hear it already "my kid would never do that".

 

There needs to be more proof of the accusations. So many of these stories turn out to be hoaxes.

 

This sort of hate violence is uncalled for. This can't go un-punished. .

Exactly! However the current societal push toward white supremacy is NOT helping! Time to make peace

 

All racism should be shelved. It is only melanin for heavens sake!

 

I'm just curious why black youth regularly assault white youth and throw racial slurs into the mix but it's not a hate crime unless a white person does it to a black.

Probably rarely a fight goes by where a white is assaulted by a black that they don't at least call them a cracker.

Hell I have been called a cracker on average probably three or four times a year since I have had this job of mine.
