On the contrary, early american capitalism ended up in horrendous abuse to the workers. Such as unsafe working conditions, child labor, slave labor, horrendous pay. There was also a total lack of quality control in products. Medicine was often merely alcohol while meat could be anything including rats. It wasn't until the government stepped in that the terrible conditions stopped. We are now also seeing a concentration of wealth. 1% of the population owns 35% of the wealth. That is 35% of all the wealth in the united states that 99% of the people DONT and CANT own. Yes capitalism works, but not in a optimal manner.

I never claimed cuba was rich. I merely said it had a communist system that worked. Which proves that it CAN work although it has not been done in an optimal manner. Also consider the american trade embargo on cuba. Which no doubt affected its wealth and the fact that cuba is a small island nation.

    That is a problem.

But it is one that can be solved by a return to sensible trade policies that do not export US factories and jobs overseas.

It cant be solved by more stupid government which is what Obama and the left thinks we need.

If it ain't rich then it is not a place I want to live in.

Or somewhere that we should imitate.

Do you know who is exporting the US factories and jobs overseas? Why the 1%! Do you think they got that much wealth by honest means? Mitt Romney himself has done it. Why pay 8$/h for joe shmoe the american when you can pay 2$/ for wang wong the chinaman?

Do you know what is the only force that can STOP these policies? The government.

edit: well I don't know what poor-ass country we are immitating now, but with unemployement at 8% (and youth unemployment at around 50%) we better start imitating a decent one.

Given current US trade policy they are doing the same thing you or I would do if we were in their place.

The wage disparity between China and the United States, along with oppressive government regulations make it almost impossible for American workers to compete with the Chinese.

the text in red is irrelevant. This is a discussion about economics and not morality. An appeal to emotion just makes you look dumb.

The problem is that the only two options (that I know of) are to either decrease the minimum wage to compete with that of a chinese man's wage *excuse me while I laugh* or to put harsh restrictions on exporting jobs. The free market has decided that american unskilled laborers are unprofitable. There is no getting around that without massive starvation.

    Trade policy is economics.

Government policy is killing the middle class and the American Dream.

Or use a device called tariffs, which are a good idea.

That and sealing the border with Mexico and deporting the illegal aliens living in this country.

The majority of Americans have been poor for most of American history. It was only recently that the majority of people increased their standard of living high enough to escape poverty.

    Poor is relative.

America has always been a rich country and the land of opportunity compared to the rest of the world.

I was talking about the fact that you added "they would do the same thing as you and I if we were in their positions"
So you want to use a GOVERNMENT APPLIED import TAX to fix this? Didn't you just say you didn't want the government involved in this? If you did this, then it would affect ALL chinese imported goods. Not just those produced by american companies. This would drive prices up. Which would be bad. Also, a recent study concluded that net immigration to the US from mexico is around 0. More are leaving for mexico than coming here. So immigration isnt as bad as it once was.

That was a response to you attacking the honesty of the rich when they are simply reacting to the current trade policy.

You would do exactly the same thing if you owned a company in their position.

As for your question about import tariffs I do want government to impose import tariffs on all Chinese goods and the manufactured products from other low-wage countries that threaten US workers.

Yes, the cost of imported products would go up but so would the number of jobs available to American workers.

    I don't care.

There are at least 20 million illegal aliens living in the United States and they are taking millions of jobs away from American workers and driving down wages for everyone else.

Wow, what a dumb thing to say. Of course she built it. Not alone, though. She had to use public roads to buy the iPhone, and the public internet to research neural networks and breast cancer. I'll bet she even attended a public school. (Gasp).

Jeez, the American right is sounding pretty darn stupid these days. :(

First of all she comes from the UK, she is heavily subsidized from government from her universal health care to the welfare payments that pay her housing and food so that she can stay home and come up with those ideas for cures instead of wasting her talents and brain power working at macdonalds for minimum wage as many Americans do and are unable to come up with ideas anymore.

Also for the massive production on a macro scale it will take many menial laborers to make those iphones that she puts her idea onto.

The same pubic roads that welfare bums use to collect their government check?

Conservatives believe in equal opportunity while libs believe in equal results.

Thats why Obama sneers at successful people in the private sector.

Successful people have separated themselves and risen above the typical Obama voter who just depends on government for their dally bread.

And according to Obama, if she were a US citizen she would never be successful without our government, she never got there on her own. The thousands of hours of critical thought are attributed to the help of Obama's government. She needs to pay it forward, she needs to share her accomplishments. If she ever becomes wealthy, she needs to give the bulk of her wealth to the US government, because without them according to Obama, she would have never succeeded.

See how (*)(*)(*)(*)ing stupid this sounds?

She is a wonderful accomplished young lady, and she did it with passion, dedication, and discipline all on her own, so screw our Marxist leader and his goofy ass Marxist thinking

She comes from a marxist country, the UK. They give her free universal healthcare and pay for all of her living expenses through their socialist programs.

That is how she is able to sit at home for many hours and think up ideas to further mankind.

Once the US had inventors like her when we were socialist and fostered that through welfare under Franklin Delonor Roosevelts New Deal one of Americas greatest Presidents before she moved back to laize fair capitalism.

Under President Obamas marxist system more people will have the opportunities to be innovators rather than the small minority of capitalists who are idle rich.

Wow, I am pathetic according to you because I shove Obama's stupid (*)(*)(*)(*)ing comments and beliefs back in your faces. Not pathetic at all to those of us that have worked harder than you can imagine to build our businesses to be the best they can be. To build our businesses to provide a safe and enthusiastic environment so that all those that work in my company can prosper. Like I said, you will soon move from your parents house, and just maybe you will someday understand what I am talking about if you end up working countless hours to be the best that you can be at what you do. Or, you can end up being a government employee and complain day after day how you are always being (*)(*)(*)(*)ed over.

My purpose for using this wonderfully talented young lady as an example to show how incredibly ridiculous Obama's Marxist statements are. Americans are growing sick and tired of this divider and chief pitting us against each other. Our great nation is great because of capitalism, because of philanthropic awesome citizens who care for those that need help, it is about giving people a hand up instead of a hand out. So you go ahead and call me pathetic if you want, but this November will make evident what matters most to Americans.
